A make do kind of day

It was wet, grey and cold day today. After shopping to top up food and get some other essentials, we settled down to a hot bowl of soup (from yesterday) and bread, for lunch.

There was one bowlful left, so I chopped up 3 rashers of streaky bacon, 1/2 a courgette, 1/2 a pepper, and 1 small onion.

These were fried, the soup added to them and served on 6oz of spaghetti. Grated cheese finished it off and that was our tea.

We have been trying to decide whether to have the curtains tied back in the front room. So today, we bought some items to make cord tie backs. If we decide we don't like those, then I still have some material to make fabric ones. The photographs are not the best but hopefully, you get the gist.

We got the nearest match we could in cord, a three tone apricot plait at £1.50 per metre. Then some brass rings at 10p each.

Finally, DB used fine copper wire to twist around the material and ring to lock them into place.

Here is one in place. If it creases the curtains too much, we won't bother with them.Anyway, the cost of this trial was £5.30 whereas buying 4 cord tie backs would have cost us nearer to £16.00.

  1. they look fine. We don't have curtains in our house, just blinds in the bedrooms and a couple of pleated blinds in the family room. One of the joys of living in the country!!

    1. I would use curtains even if I lived in the middle of nowhere I think. Just have this dread of standing at the window and someone popping up to look in!

    1. Thank you, not sure though as they look okay without anything as well, but have always had some form of tie back.

    1. Can't do that lizzie as we have cut the cord. Even if we decide against them, it will go into my craft stash for use somewhere else.

  4. Love the sound of that re-vamped soup. I often make a thick vegetable soup which is blitzed and quite often I'll use the leftovers as an addition to casseroles or cottage pies. A girl after my own heart.

    1. It was good. The last time I had some leftover tomato and vegetable soup, I used it as the base for a pizza.
