Do the dates of Equinox move?

I was a little confused on the weather forecast this morning when the announcer said that today was the first day of the Spring Equinox.

Although DB doubts me somewhat, I am positive that when at school, I was taught that they were March 21st, June 21st, September 23rd and December 21st. I know this because I could never get a straight answer from the teacher as to why September was the 23rd and not the 21st like the other three!

I understand that from a gardening point of view, March to May is Spring, June to August is Summer, September to November is Autumn and December to February is Winter.

Mind you, after nipping out to do a little shopping this morning as well as returning some library books, we came out to a snow shower. So, regardless of whether it is officially spring or winter, the weather is currently cold enough to indicate to me, that it still feels like winter.

We began eating the bread I made yesterday using Paul Hollywood's recipe. Verdict - delicious. We had an egg sandwich for lunch with a bowl of piping hot sweetcorn soup. Tonight we shall have pulled pork Shepard's pie.

    1. Thank you, I had read something similar - why teach it as static when it clearly isn't.

  2. From your recommendation I watched Paul Hollywood's programme on Catch up tv. Wasn't it good? Such lovely loaves and I particularly liked the malt loaf. I'm intrigued to know what a 'pulled pork' shepherds pie is?

    1. I slow cook a pork hock, pulled all the meat off and used some of it in this.

  3. I don't think it matters which day is the first day of Spring, it still feels very much like the depths of winter.. brrr...

I love the idea of the shepherds pie with the pulled pork, it sounds delicious, must remember that, thank you.

No snow here today just rain rain and more rain!!

Glad you enjoyed your bread, it looked lovely, you can't beat homemade.

    1. Well, it would have been nice but when we served it up, it turned out to be regular (but still nice) shepherds pie - we had forgotten to label it.

    1. My dwarf daffodils are just beginning to open but the others are all shut tightly. Mind you, little flecks of green are appearing on other things.

  6. Spring? Is that when that big, round yellow thing appears in the sky? It seems so long ago since we have seen it xxxx

    1. Supposedly! It will be nice to see a bright yellow thing in the sky rather than the wishy washy thing we have become used to!x

    1. Same here as well, got to come some time. DB is still ploughing ahead painting the fence panels whenever we have a relatively dry day.

  8. I'll be glad when it's well and truly here! Your bread looked so fab it would have been a travesty if it didn't taste as good as it looked!

    1. I know on both counts. Although his recipe calls for oil, reckon you could get away with soaked linseed.
