Film night and other things...

Cinema in the house Thursday night we watched Skyfall. Quite good but wasn't sure if it was as good as other ones. Everyone bought things to nibble such as crisps, marsh mallows, mini pretzels, grapes which were set out on a coffee table. We then chose our drinks of choice and settled back.

The film finished around 9:30pm so we had a hot drink and a slice of defrosted stollen followed by lots of conversation and laughs.

Before everyone arrived I had made us a lamb stir fry using half a piece of neck fillet. The other half was used in a lamb and vegetable curry on Friday night. Lunch that day was the remains of carrot and lentil soup and home made granary bread.

We went for a walk this morning (Saturday) to test out another part of a larger route we had previously walked. This time, it started and ended in Ringstead. It measured 4.8 miles and as I had forgotten to strap my toes (a couple on each foot ride under the other toes), had to stop half way around to strap them up with some tape I had taken just in case.

Once home I soaked them in salt water, rubbed lavender oil on them then re-strapped. They are very sore and I only hope will heal well enough for our next walking day. I won't post about the walk now but will do so when we do it as a group.

I have at last finished my other sock and here they are, nothing too special but they do keep the old feet warm.

  1. Those socks look lovely and cosy. I haven't seen Skyfall. Did you watch it on a big screen? I always feel that James Bond needs the large screen to get the full effect xxx

  2. Everyone comes to our house as we have the bigger screen, not huge at 42" but big enough.xx

  3. I haven't watched it properly, but my husband watched it on the way to New Zealand, and so many other people were watching that I've probably seen most of it through half-caught glimpses at their screens! Sounds like a really convivial evening you had.

  4. There's nothing worse than sore feet after a walk and hope yours heal soon. Those socks look great and will certainly come in useful if we have any more cold weather.

    1. Thanks. I reckon if I stay off it for as long as possible, that it should be okay.

  6. I enjoyed Skyfall but my favorite of the season was The Silver Lining Playbook.
You can get special splints for your toes to wear at night. Might be worth looking into with your podiatrist. I have a splint I wear to prevent bunions.

    1. I won't need a splint but thanks lizzie. It is not so much my toes going under as the fleshy pads under them. Providing I remember to tape them up, don't normally have a problem.

  7. Hope your feet heal quickly. The socks look great - I think I have some chunky wool in my stash so will give these a go. If not I'll use some DK and 4 ply together.

    1. I used 100% wool as that was all I had so may make another pair using something slightly softer. They are nice and easy to knit though.

  8. We have a big, 3 D tv as well so are the choice for movie nights :-) We enjoyed Skyfall :-)

I got two blu ray dvds, still wrapped, of Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale for £5 at the charity shop - apparently the person who bought them in, didn't have a blu ray player? I do so thank you kind person as that is our weekend film night sorted for the next two weeks :-)

  9. We watched Skyfall a few weeks ago, I enjoyed it but would not want to watch it again.I am not a huge Bond fan although I do like action films. Sore feet are no joking matter, have you tried Arnica cream or balm I use it for all sorts of aches and pains.

    1. Didn't have any arnica but have used it in the past. The lavender seems to be working though.

    1. Looking for ward to the lamb immensely. Socks not as soft as they could be as I only had 100% wool, no doubt will try to felt when I wash them!

  13. Do you wear 2 pairs of socks , one silk and one wool. I find this stops sore feet for me. You do have to have enough room in your boots though.

    1. No, I wear one thick pair of walking socks and my boots are proper walking boots designed to fit me. It is just the fleshy parts of the two last toes on each foot that work their way under the next toe so I walk on that bit and make it sore. Providing I remember to strap them to stop them turning sideways, I am fine.
