It's that time of
month again to donate. Although it is Comic Relief this month, I am
not going to give to them simply because I know many others will.
Instead I want to
donate to a more local charity, Redwings Horse Sanctuary, whose web
site can be found here
Last month, they
had the all too frequent job, of taking in yet more rescued horses.
Such a job is not only distressing but costs a lot of money. Some
similar sanctuaries have gone under in the current economic climate
and I don't want Redwings to be one of them.
What a brilliant idea. Comic Relief will be on everyones minds this month and I suspect lots of little charities will miss out on regular and spur of the moment donations
ReplyDeleteThat is why I am trying to ensure I give to the less well known ones.
DeleteRedwings is a brilliant charity- when my girls were small, a visit there was a regular part of Norfolk holidays x
ReplyDeleteI should imagine vet fees and food is probably their biggest expenditure.
DeleteBrilliant idea! I`m also donating to a local cause. Mine goes to the food bank in town. I made a promise to myself before Christmas that I would try to give a little on a regular basis. I`ve once again managed to put an assortment of tins and packet food items together that will shortly be collected by some volunteer drivers of the food bank. Charity begins at home, so I`m making sure my local comunity benefits from my surplus.
ReplyDeleteI also think that is a good cause as well Sarina. Weatherwise, we have been the same as you but now the temperature has dropped below zero, the snow is hanging around.
DeleteGreat idea DC and I, like you would rather give to a local charity for local people/animals.

I try to mix things up but tend if possible to stay away from the big charities.
DeleteA brilliant cause, I recently donated to a donkey sanctuary instead of sending flowers to a funeral because my dear departed friend loved animals.

That is a lovely idea. Flowers at funerals also get my goat if you pardon the expression.
DeleteHi there, I've been catching up on your blog since I discovered it earlier today. I was attrated by your War Diaries as I've been interested in rationing for years. I have Marguerite Patons books on the period plus a collection of original women's magazines and cookery books. Also, really interested in frugal living since my husband lost his job in London 14 years ago and I had 5 children to bring up on 1/3 of his former salary. It changed my way of shopping and cooking forever, and even though he retrained as a teacher and our income gradually rose (until he was made redundant again 2 years ago) I never reverted to spending like I used to. I still see it as something of a challenge to see how little I can manage on and how I can make a small amount of food go between 6 adults (3 grown children still living with us plus one daughter's partner). Anyway, I'm still reading 2012 entries at past midnight so will have to leave the rest until tomorrow. Just wanted to mention one post where you say you don't use and egg to glaze pie crusts so they look a little pale, well I just brush a little milk over mine and they have that lovely glazed look without wasting an egg. Oh, and I agree about Comic Relief. We give regularly to several charities by direct debit anyway and will respond during the year to other appeals so I don't do CR as well.
ReplyDeleteHello Heleng, glad you discovered me. The war diaries will be getting added to at the end of this month so don't forget to go and check! Like you, I enjoy a challenge and we still find ourselves trying new things.
ReplyDeleteI give to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls here in Chicago and also The Morning Star Mission for the homless in the next town.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about the Smile Train also for Christmas this year. It is good to give something back; we are all frugal but so much better off than the majority of folk in the world.
Generosity is something we need to foster in our lives; it is all part of living the sort of life we want...........
Freezing cold here, snow, sleet, rain.......winter is really hanging on this year.
Yes, winter certainly seems to be hanging on here as well. Until these past few months,I had never really thought about giving constantly before. Can't really remember why I started but am glad I did. We had always given to Forces charities and Marie Curie etc up until now. Yes, we all give of ourselves and at times need to be in receipt of it. Whether it be a smile, a comforting word, a hug, food or something else.
