Jeans...

I shall need to spend a little money on clothes this year. All 5 of my tee shirts are years old, tired and baggy. They will be utilized into rag rugs or something similar when I replace them.

My one and only pair of jeans are covered in fence paint and as I use them for our weekly walks, am beginning to feel a little embarrassed when we go into a cafe to eat. Yesterday saw us briefly in Matalan – briefly as their music was driving us mad

Stopped at the Falmer's section (whose clothes I love but rarely buy) although I will sometimes treat myself to a cardigan or shirt from them. I always buy one size up as their measurements are a little tight.

Their jeans were £28 a pair and I pondered on whether to buy them. Then I found some of their own brand. Tried a pair on and they fitted well although they were straight legged. I had long socks on at the time and they were too tight down the calves.

Trundled back and managed to find boot leg ones which are supposed to be 29” long but seem a little short. No problem though as if they shrink too much I will add a decorative band onto the bottom of the legs and also somewhere else. They will then look as though they were always that way.

They fitted better and were £10 each so I bought 2 pairs. Now my old pair of jeans can be used for dirty jobs.

Went to check on my wormery the other day and a few of the worms have begun to find each section of the food I have put in there. Looks like I'll soon be able to feed them properly. Might hang off as long as possible though as they are in the conservatory at the moment and I don't fancy having fruit flies in there.

  1. You really think everything through so well. I am so inspired by your recycling of everything you use.

Thanks for the update about your wormery too.

    1. Thank you and you are welcome. Keeping my fingers cross for the wormery but as it is new, will not be putting it outside for the first time until the weather gets better!

  2. Great to find well fitting jeans at such a good price! I can't remember the last time I bought brand new jeans. I had a few pairs from charity shops when I was losing most of the weight, and I've benefited from KL's weight loss with her cast-off jeans and jeggings for the last 2 years. I need to buy some vest tops and some shorts for our trip to K and A's wedding, but like you will be looking for the best priced ones that I can. I can't imagine I'll be needing vest tops and shorts much living in England, so don't want to spend a fortune on them!

    1. I think they are a little too short but are okay. It is the first time I have got jeans that fit on the hips without having a huge gap at the back on the waist. Definitely don't make clothes like they used too.

  3. Thrift store are wonderful here in the States for jeans, racks and racks of them about #5 a pair. When my tees wear out, if they are 100% cotton I use them as mulch in the garden; lay them carefully around my tomatoes and cover them with a bit of fine mulch. I would definitely try ebay for clothes......I love cashmere but cant afford new so this winter got a wonderful sweater off ebay for about 90% less than I would pay in the stores. I find stretch leggings great for winter.

  4. What a good use for cotton tee shirts but mine are a mixture so will go into my rag rug bag. Going to be talking about clothing in my two next posts.

  5. I find it really difficult to find jeans that fit well - after my creosote fiasco in my favourite jeans I had to go out and buy some more - but could I find a pair that fitted properly round the waist - the 27 length was too short and the 29 too long - it is so frustrating.

    1. It is. I am normally 29" but some are too short, some too long and some just right. Invariably the ones that are just right have too big a waist on them.
