Finally...

At long last, all raised beds are painted. My wrists and shoulders are killing me, so after preparing two loaves of rye bread, decided to sit and enjoy a rye pizza!

A few days ago, it was so sunny in the back we had to have the awning out to stop the bedrooms from overheating (south facing). Thought I would show you a picture of the full length awning we have, to do this job. It is fully electric and fits neatly away into a metal tube making it weather proof (if away).
If it is too windy it can't be used, then we have to close the curtains but the awning is far better.

I also just noticed that the pussy willow has opened on the branches I picked to make my Easter tree.
The daffodils that we removed from the fruit cage and temporarily potted up are finally beginning to open. I'll post a picture of those when more developed.

I think it is fair to say that Spring has finally sprung! Even if it decides to snow again (shouldn't be surprised) the plants are now growing in the garden so the soil must be warm enough. Hooray!!

  1. Love your awning and your house, very cute.
Still nothing growing here except spring bulbs but we are getting rain which is promising. Our Spring here in the mid-west is very short some years, we go from sleet to 80 very quickly.

    1. Thank you. Spring bulbs popped up here several weeks ago but the hardy flowering plants are now pushing leaves through.

  2. It all looks so beautiful, immaculate. You must be delighted. My parents have an awning like that and they are fab!

  3. Yes, your house and awning look lovely.

You are so organised. Such a inspiration.

I really hope Spring has sprung.

I have a question for you. We planted some bulbs in pots and want to move them. Obviously we won't do it now but when would be a good time to do so?

    1. Wait until the leaves die down then they will have fed the bulbs for flowering next year. If you want to use the pots sooner than that, wait until they have finished flowering then tip the whole lot carefully out of the pot and put in the ground somewhere until the leaves die down. Remember to mark where you put them in case you want to pot them up again for next year.

    2. Thanks!!

I got given some bulbs as a present. We followed directions regarding planting them and they look really spaced out and a bit ridiculous to be honest. I would like to move the bulbs to the garden and then we can enjoy them more.

  5. How lovely that the sun shone for you to be able to put the awning up. I was very tempted at the weekend to have a cuppa on my patio in the sun, it was gorgeous but once outside there was still a biting chill, so sat by our French windows instead to admire the freshly mown grass that hubby had just finished. Have a good week.

    1. We managed a cuppa on their today but it was only warm when the sun was out. As soon as it went behind a cloud there was quite a difference in temperature. Have a good week yourself. Can't be long now until you finish! Although we no longer have grass, when it was mown it was my all time favourite smell.

  6. I love the willow! One of my earliest school memories is a nature table discussion about male and female flowers. I must have been about 5 - the very word takes me back to a sunny spring day.

Also, I have porch envy - even if yours packs away at the push of a button :)

    1. I keep meaning to take the decorations off the willow and get rid of it but it looks so lovely even though it is now open. The awning was something we had always wanted and saved hard (as you can imagine, such a big thing was not cheap) When summer is here, it only keeps your upper body in shade so we have to be careful we don't get burnt on our legs!
