Hi folks, did you miss me?
We have been doing family history research for the past week, in Wales and slightly over the border, into Herefordshire. Spent a whole day in the Powys Archive office (not good for your back!) and managed to get one or two more clues as well as deepening others even further. We have searched many churchyards, often in vain, looking for ancestral remains (oh how posh we sound - no-one in a vault anywhere - such a shame). No one can ever say that family history is boring!
Anyway, just wanted you all to know we haven't dropped off the planet, kicked the bucket or even given our boots to anyone. We had intended to keep on posting if close enough to home, but by the time we got back in, we were either too tired or had no internet connection.
I'll post more tomorrow. Ta ta for now.
Glad to see you back, I wondered where you had gone. It sounds like a hectic few days.
ReplyDeleteYes it was but also rewarding.
DeleteSounds like my sort of holiday heaven.I love family history and its so much nice to go to the place where the family originated- its amazing what you can find out. I have done it a few times and I like to imagine my ancestors walking around the place years before.
ReplyDeleteYou can only do so much on the internet, backed up always by certificates. We were at the stage where we needed to check out parish records in person.
DeleteNot to worry, Dc, I get overwhelmed by the number of posts people are ...er... posting these days anyway, I can't get round to all of them so a respite is good! x
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, it will take me ages to back read all the blogs since I've been away. Your drained garlic oil looked very good, hope you enjoyed the chopped up leaves.
DeleteHope you've had a wonderful time. Sounds like you've had an interesting break!
ReplyDeleteYes we did even though at times it can be frustrating especially when forenames and surnames are the same.
DeleteSounds like you've had a wonderful time! I have recently discovered husband's Great x 4 Grandmother was Welsh (a first!) and a bigamist (hmm not the first in his family). I can only imagine how exciting it is to go to the actual places your ancestors came from and delve through the record offices. Did you discover anything exciting?
ReplyDeleteWe did find just one family grave that gave us some new information. It may be a brother of a grandfather of mine, a vicar whose daughter had two illegitimate children! Most of it was to confirm things we thought we knew as well as get one more step backwards but that proved impossible on this occasion.
