Coming along nicely...

Remember this
A sewing cabinet we bought second hand from a charity shop needing a little tlc - here it is now (minus its lid) and drawer handle - waiting to have its inside finished.
The inside looks like this
Obviously a wood saving idea! We have made some heavy duty cardboard shapes to fit the sides and base and will be investigating ways to get the material onto it and finish off the inside.

  1. The wood looks lovely now it's been sanded. I used a Bostik type glue (Wickes own make) to fix the fabric to the cardboard of mine, and also used the same glue to fix the finished panels into the box. It worked well and attached firmly.

  2. That's looking really lovely, what a transformation.

To cover the insides the easiest way is to cover the cardboard (or whatever you decide to use) first with the fabric and then stick the sides and base in position, then cover every 'seam' with cord or ribbon simply glued in place.

  5. Thank you Scarlet and Sue for your tips (and Anne for your comment). DB has done it all. We have found some fabric in our stash box (an old tablecloth) and decided to use double sided tape to hold the fabric in place on the cardboard. We used it again to seal it to the cabinet sides. Seems to be holding well. Should it come off, we will use some glue.

  6. Watching this with interest, as I have a box to renovate. I was planning to use Sue's covered card idea too.

    Blessings xx

  7. Lynne and Angela - Thank you. DB has now done the box and drawer base in material. He realised after he had done them, that he didn't note where the screw holes were for the sliding bracket that allows the top to open and close. Not to worry, he realised that if he fits the lid part first, the box part will be obvious as to where he needs to screw it to. Just a handle to find now for the drawer.

  8. You have done a great job with the cabinet - looking forward to seeing what it looks like when you have figured out how to line it - what do you think you will use it for?

  9. DB is using it to hold his tapestry things. I might get a look in somewhere but we got it for him and it has been his project from the start.
