Saved up for ...

First of all, welcome to my two new folowers via Bloglovin - Ouija and Tracy.

At last, a new bed and mattress has arrived in the bedroom. Only the third in 32.5 years of marriage. Got fed up of rolling into the middle! They were both bought in the sales, 50% off (allegedly).

The bed frame (first time not having a divan) is light ash and the mattress a Sealy with a memory like additional mini mattress on the top of the mattress itself.

Took a little while to fathom out where to put all the accumulated 'stuff' from the 2 underside drawers of the old bed!

Here it is just put together:
And with the mattress on top:
Needing deep therapeutic massages and chiropractic treatment on my back long term, means no compromise on a quality if a tad too expensive mattress. Mind you, if we had just won the premium bonds or something similar. would have definately bought one of the new gel mattresses. So comfortable! Mind you, at £1600 in the half price sale, way to much this time around.

Mind you, might also have to change over to fitted sheets, on which I am not too keen, as we squashed our fingers and hands constantly, whilst trying to tuck in the sheet.

The 'old' bed, a small double and still in reasonable condition, as is the mattress even though it was no longer good for my back, for anyone not married to someone with 'the princess and the pea' problem, is being picked up next week by a charity furniture warehouse. Paying the council £15 or so to send it to landfill was not an option.

This bed should last now 'forever' even if the mattress has to be changed eventually.

  1. There's nothing like a comfortable bed, regardless of the price. We figured that we spend nearly half our lives in it so it's got to be good. I like the idea of the mattress topper too. Might have to look into that idea. Fitted sheets are a must though and saves a lot of aggro when making the bed. Enjoy!

    1. The mini mattress is stitched to the mattress - very odd but I have seen them around in Ikea. Yes, will have to get some fitted sheets, otherwise our hands will get very knocked about and sore.

  2. It looks a really nice bed, we moved away from divans and onto framed beds a couple of years ago and have never regretted it, although I do miss the drawers!!

    1. Yes, not having drawers is odd but I wanted to be able to hoover beneath it. My back is taking its time getting used to being fully supported!

  3. That looks like a lovely bed. I like the lower end to it - when we had a framed bed it had a high endpiece which had the effect of making the bed seem larger and the room much smaller!

    1. Tonight will be the 5th night and just getting used to the mattress. This bed seems huge in the room even though it is only 6" wider than the last one. Mind you, I think the frame makes it seem bigger as with a divan, you don't see any bottom part.

  4. I think too many people compromise on getting the right bed. So many people I know go for the cheapest, and they do complain about it. Health makes it really important to be comfortable when we sleep so it's good to see that you aren't ignoring it. :)

A lifetime of good sleep is worth far more than the cost of a good bed and mattress. I hope your back adjusts soon.

    1. You are so right KB. Each night is getting better, I am stiff in the morning but I think that is down to the 'shock' my back is experiencing at being fully supported!

  5. I am interested to see how you progress with the 'memory' mattress. My OH has a lot of back/shoulder pains at the minute [we think this may be connected to sleeping with an Apnoea CPAP mask] and he is talking about getting a new mattress. Mind you, thinking about the cost of one gives ME sleepless nights!!

  6. The mattress is from the Sealy posturpedic range (many different sorts and prices). The top I have just re-read is not an actual memory foam but states "has a sumptuous micro quilted pillow top mattress featuring 2060 springs, 1400 mini-motion pressure responsive pocket springs on top of Sealy’s unique supportive 660 Posture Tech Spring System providing complete spinal alignment. Combined with a comfort layer of Innergetic Latex for outstanding comfort and pressure relief." We got it from Benson's for beds and tried their comfort station before buying. Well worth a visit.
