I had mentioned on a previous couple of posts that I was trying to knit some 'visiting' slippers. The first pair (pink) didn't turn out the correct size so I looked for another pattern and found one here
Being the dumb knitting creature that I am, I went wrong, so had to write it out in a language I could understand and hope she doesn't mind!
Anyway, herewith the first one, finished, sewn up and on!
From the side:
And empty to show you how it 'free-stands':
I added an extra 2 ridges (4 rows) to the pattern to get it to fit me (Size 6). It is not the sort of slipper to stop you feeling it if you stand on anything, more to keep your socks clean when visiting. Light enough to fold up and take with you.
I think I might decorate it and experiment if I can knit an inner sole to it to give it a bit more body for normal wear.
How strange! I have just downloaded a free pattern for knitted slippers! I have a pair of "visiting slippers" which I keep in my travelling holdall and they are wearing a bit thin, so I thought i would make some more - and maybe some for presents too. Will you be sharing the pattern? They look sort of elfish.

The link to the pattern is at the top of the post.
DeleteWhat a brilliant idea - visiting slippers! You could always just insert a pair of insoles if you didn't fancy knitting another pair! Belated Merry Christmas, have just returned to the field of blogging and blog-reading since Christmas Eve!
ReplyDeleteIf I can be bothered, I thought I would knit another sole and needle felt them together - want to take a bet on whether I do it or not:) ha ha
DeleteThose slippers look very nice and cosy.
ReplyDeleteAt least they are not to tight and I think just right for visiting or emergency's.
DeleteOoh I like the style of those more than the pink ones - they look more substantial. I think I'd have to add quite a few rows to fit my size 8s!
ReplyDeleteThey look just the job, nice and soft and easy to wear. I am a size 7 so do you think adding yet another 4 rows will increase them another size up, ? Must download the pattern later and have a go. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteScarlet and Karen - the pattern doesn't stipulate what size they knit to but I reckon around a 5. Just decided to add 4 rows for my size 6 and it fits well without slipping off. So I guess another 4 on top of that (8 extra) should do for a 7 and another 4 (12 extra on the pattern) should fit an 8! I roughly held them in place along the length of my foot and they looked a little short but the extra 4 rows helped!
