Trying to avoid the hustle and knitting...

On the run up to Christmas, we have visited a friends house for coffee and mince pies, then one evening, went to The White Horse at Holme next the Sea for a 'Christmas' meal with 2 friends. We have done a large top-up of fresh food and visited the 'Lituanica' store in King's Lynn, with another friend who was a bit bothered about going in on her own.

I still need to make the grand-dogs their presents then all will be finished. A quiet Christmas for us, then we are looking forward to the New Year with DS, his fiancée and the dogs.

Finally finished my bit of knitting. Did you guess what it was no! - then I will show you (apologies in advance for the slightly blurred picture but I was started to fall over as I snapped it:).

Yup!, one of a pair of fold away ballet style slippers, the sort of thing you can keep in your pocket when visiting. Unfortunately, they are too small for me (Size 6) as the heel part sits about 2" under my foot. Yes, I could cast on more stitches at the beginning and make them larger but I don't have enough wool so won't bother. It has however, kept me nicely entertained for a couple of days!

The pattern for these came from Elaine's blog here

  1. You have had a busy time, lovely time though spent with friends. Lovely slippers and a great idea for slipping into your pocket. I will have a look at the pattern, at the monent my charity knitting is kitted jersey's for Tour de France bunting, these will be festooned around Harrogate next year.

  2. HI, I've just found your pattern for the slippers and want to make some, I am size 8 so I'm thinking that I should add more stitches, what do you think. also are there more stitches on one side than the other, can't make it out as you say only knit 20 and there are 47 st so this isn't the centre. or am I thick ???

    1. Hi, maybe Elaine is the best person to ask as the pattern came from her. Yes, I too thought it strange that it appears to knit lop-sided. It doesn't seem to matter when on as the extra bit seems to fit around the toes. I also wasn't too keen on stitching them together under the foot as I could feel it! I am just trying another pattern which hopefully will be larger (and also allows for an extra 8 rows for the longer foot) and seems easier. They can be found at: http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/socksslippers.htm

  3. I think its a great idea rather than having to pack your slippers, those will slip nicely into your bag or pocket even.

  4. You're so good getting back so quickly, thanks for that. I have 2 rows to go to finish the first slipper in red, thought it was a bit festive. Just went ahead before getting your answer. If it looks okay I might go overboard and put pom poms on the front, should get a laugh from my NEXT buying daughter. lol

    1. Hopefully they will fit. I used pure wool which didn't have much stretch in it.
