Almost ready...

Firstly welcome to two new followers via Bloglovin - Vada Wetzel and C. Gunn.

Having decided this was the year I was going to have a go at quilting, I have sorted and cut off all unwanted bits from the material I had and in this last week, have hunted through charity shops galore (gosh, some of their prices are awful) for extra bits.

I decided to not take Froog's advice about buying shirts and pyjama's from them as they ranged in price from £4 minimum to around £7 - I can just about buy new for that price. It must be nice to live in places where people can find really good deals.

Anyhow, after trudging around looking for beddings in colours that I needed to supplement my stash, I found these three items:
A really nice single lilac and pale green duvet cover (£2.50) - actually, one side of it looks like a quilt already so I could cheat but I think I would like some of its squares in another project. I have just measured it and it is a double so a bonus there!

Then I found this lovely king size quilt (£5.50) in nice creams and mint greens:
Finally, this single quilt for £3.00, a cream background with pink and green flowers on it:
Therefore £11.00 got me an awful lot of material for future use and more importantly in the colours I needed. All I need to decide now, it what size squares (or oblongs) to cut and begin...

  1. There are some parts of Norfolk where the charity shops charge SUCH high prices. I actually complained in a shop in Holt once - they were asking £2 above the NEW price for a 2nd hand Ikea vase!!
Dereham is a good spot for lots of cheap CS shops though.

    1. Thanks for that Angela. Here, Sue Ryder seems to have the best prices.

  2. Lovely fabrics, that should keep you going for a while. I have also noticed the CS prices are creeping up, and once came across a primark t shirt quite worn at more than new price

    1. Karen, thanks for your 2nd comment - not printed - didn't sound rubbish at all:) Glad it is not just me that thinks prices in CS are creeping up. Only commented to DB on the way home, if everything they had, they sold for £1, they would probably be stripped bare and need more items to sell!

  3. I`ve also noticed the charity shop prices having been raked up lately. I always go looking with a purpose, so never get drawn into buying what I don`t need. It`s disgraceful that some charity shops seem to make an awful lot of profit now, all to the expense of us frugal folk. We are the once that these charities should be aimed at, but The prices often frighten me away from buying. Car boots should be starting off again from March onwards, so I hope to find better bargains there.

    1. We don't seem to have many good car boots around here, have to travel quite a distance to get to one which sort of ramps up the price overall.

  4. I buy lots of fabric from my local CS, a pillow case is 25p and I see them on Etsy shops at £4 upwards. Shirts have just gone up to £2.50, I look for the biggest sizes with long sleeves. Looking forward to car boot weather, I went to one last year and filled a black bin bag for £2.00.

    1. It is amazing isn't it how the prices vary around the country. Not going to buy anymore at the moment until I start otherwise it will all just sit there:)

  5. Charity shop prices are becoming a joke in this area too. In many cases you can buy new items from regular shops for about the same price as some of the second hand ones. The best ones I've found are Age UK and the local Pilgrim's Hospice shop. I've found some good deals on fabric in both of them, especially pillowcases for 50p that I use as linings for tote bags.

    1. Our Age Concern wasn't too bad but most of the rest were too high.

  6. I avoid the charity shops in town because the prices are too high. Luckily there are a couple of shopping areas in local suburbs that have a few charity shops where things are very reasonably priced. The lovely ladies in the hospice shop had saved me some 1970s pillowcases when I popped in this week - 25p each. I also got a cardi for KL for £1 in the Samaritans shop and a wool jumper for J for 50p in the Caritas shop ( it was on the reduced rail for £1 and then there was a half price on all clothes sale on!)

  7. Gosh you're going to be kept busy DC and you picked up some pretty bargains there. Charity shops are certainly putting their prices up but I do look around in other towns nearby and there are still some bargains to be found.
