So, what did I do with the latest...

Batch of wild cherry plums?

Another de-stoned portion was frozen in an ex-Chinese takeaway dish, ready for winter (I have previously done several of these plus some towards a chutney later in the season).

Once they were done and out of the way, the rest were divided. Some went into these crumbles:
The two at the back are just plum, the two in the front, plum and blueberry (from our garden). They were then topped with crumble containing brown sugar and oats:
They were frozen uncooked, again for later in the year. The final lot (plus some more blueberries, went into a cake for DB's recent birthday:

  1. Looks lovely. Brown sugar and oats make the best crumble topping, much better than just flour and white sugar. Though if crumble gets assembled here, it gets cooked and eaten!

  2. My school made the best crumble I have ever tasted and all these years later, I am still trying to recreate it! We usually only eat pudding in cold weather, usually at the weekend. We definitely eat less than we used to.

  3. Oats, brown sugar and a few nuts here! J nipped to the allotment yesterday to pick courgettes and came home with a few apples and pears from our trees down there. I turned them into crumbles and we had one after tea yesterday.
    The cake looks lovely, and a belated Happy Birthday to your DB!

    1. Thank you from DB! Our neighbour has just delivered a large container of cultivated brambles. I shall open freeze them then maybe make an autumn pudding with them. Read how to do it years ago but still haven't made one!

  5. Wow that cake looks fantastic! We don't grow sufficient to be freezing much apart from courgettes, and heaven knows what I shall do with all the runner beans ......!

    1. Thank you! I wasn't planning on freezing any beans for winter but am getting too many to eat them fresh and that is from just a few plants.
