Gosh

That was a cold night, -4C. I awoke twice feeling cold. There was a hard frost everywhere making everything glisten white.

Yesterday I thawed the Christmas ham and it will be roasted this evening for our main meal. Then tomorrow I shall slice and freeze as well as cube and add other things to form pie filling before freezing those as well.

On my needles at the moment is the front of the WWII sleeveless pullover I am knitting, 4" so far. Goodness I might actually get it finished ahead of time, unless of course I have just jinxed it!

I'm also starting to bed in my daytime shoes for the big day next month. It seems to be approaching at a fair old pace.

  1. It was perishingly cold here last night too, even got up and put on a pair of bedsocks!
When is the 'Big Day'? Our son is getting married on Feb 21st, so I'm wearing my 'daytime' shoes around the house to wear them in. They've got heels (albeit only an inch and three quarters) and as I normally wear absolute flats I feel as though I'm walking on stilts!
After the indulgences of the festive season we're going go be eating a lot of veg soup between now and the wedding, there are a few pounds gained that need to be lost again!
I can't knit, but am crocheting a 'Wedding Ring' design cushion for DS and FDiL, it was originally going to be a throw, but I'm not fast (or patient) enough for that!

    1. Same day as your son and FDiL! I can't really crochet but it is one of the things I hope to get to grips with! My heels are about 2" but luckily I only have to stand for photos and sit for the meal. After that I can change into flats.

  2. Wasn't it cold?! My husband had forgotten to bring the outdoor chicken feeders in last night and it took me ages to defrost, clean and refill. I also needed to defrost and refresh the bird bath. I'd forgotten what a fag the whole thing can be.
As the family are round today we are having a (homegrown) leg of lamb today as a change (still some leftovers in the freezer, but fancy a change).

    1. Defrosted a gammon last night so well shall have some for two nights then freeze the rest. Know what you means about frozen food and drink bowls, no longer an issue now.

  3. Gosh, so we'll both be giving our 'babies' away on the same day. 'Our' wedding is at 12-00 noon!
My dress is floor length, so the heels will stay on whilst I'm wandering about a lot, less chance of tripping over my dress that way! For the evening I've got some sequinned fold-up flats, they're really comfortable, almost like putting slippers on!
Less than seven weeks to go, eeek!

  4. Oooh, my legs only see daylight if the temp rises above 72F!

  7. It really was/is chilly isn't it? We currently have our Christmas gammon in the oven for dinner and leftovers for lunches. It will be followed by the Christmas cheese we didn't get around to eating.

  8. It is -20C here right now. cold, cold cold. DH and I both have terrible coughs since Dec. 7th. We are very that our neighbour came by with his snowblower and cleared all our snow for us! Great guy!

    1. Luckily we rarely get that cold. Worst here has been -12C. Can't beat good neighbours!

  9. I have 2 hot water bottles in bed at the moment, one for my feet and one to hug. It's useless me trying to sleep if my feet are cold, and hugging a bottle keeps the rest of me nice and cosy. Roll on the warmer weather...I hate the cold.

  10. Happy new year! It was indeed a cold one last night and here its lasted all day. I still get really warm under our duvet though so rarely feel cold in bed. My dad gave me a ham which I am wondering how to cook.I may well end up roasting it and doing a similar sort of thing that you have done.

    1. Same to you. The ham was v. Nice. I tend to forget how real ham tastes compared to what you can buy and cook yourself.

  12. I slept in a fleece, very cold. Still it looks like it is. Going to warm up later in the week :). It is exciting all the preparation for the wedding isn't it, shame the day goes so quickly! Xxx

    1. It is exciting although I think FDiL's parents have had more work to do than us, less than 7 weeks now.

  13. Very cold. Hot water bottle is a must. We only have a 7.5 tog quilt on our bed as hubby gets too hot in bed (I'll re phrase that - he doesn't feel the cold!!) but I have a throw on top on my side which makes it very cosy indeed and is a good compromise. P x

    1. Heated a microwave bean bag last night, that helped. That does sound like a good compromise.

  14. It was forecast for us to be at -4, but although the evening was icy cold the temperature rose quickly overnight making it very mild by first thing, I'm completely baffled by the weather at the moment, we have had just about everything thrown at us over the last couple of weeks, including glorious warm sunshine, no wonder the snowdrops are coming out and the daffs are just making an appearance through the soil.

  15. It was really cold here, but I still had to throw the bedding off in the early hours - it really must be my age!
The wedding will be here before you know it - so exciting for you all! Going to check my emails now because I can't remember what your day shoes are like!
