Welcome, weather and food

First of all, a warm welcome to Heather Burrell, Jill Akers and Catherine Robinson via Bloglovin and L.J. Lilley via here.

Isn't it cold now that the northerly wind is bringing air down from the Arctic! I had my monthly massage yesterday, we came home for a lunch of soup:
Then decided to go back and do our shopping for next week as the forecast wasn't very good. It started to rain, sleet and snow as we came out of the shop but had nearly stopped by the time we got home:

Just a light covering but it was already lying on the garden and roads and is still there this morning. More to come methinks!

Unbelievable morning, blue sky, bright sunshine and a bit warmer.

    1. Gorgeous morning here now although only around 3C, the sun is shining but still a slightly cold wind, nowhere near as brisk as a few days ago!

  3. My dad, who was a fantastic gardener, always called snow "a poor man's fertilizer" because it was so nourishing to the garden. We had a light dusting here on Tuesday. So odd to see snow on the sand at the oceanfront.

    1. I suppose it must have some goodness in it the same as rain, both of which seem to pick up and deliver good as well as bad.

  4. Well we had something here in Essex this morning that resembled sieved icing sugar! All gone within the hour. Have a great weekend DC and keep warm. P x

    1. Same to you. I think our excitement about snow changes as we get older as we realise what a nuisance it can be when it hangs around.

    1. Thank you. I managed to get the back tidied up in Autumn but not the front.

  6. We had blizzard style snow yesterday but it melted as it hit the wet ground. Bitterly cold winds and rain are on the agenda for now but there is a dusting of snow on the mountains.

  7. Hi I'm Sue and am frugal but have a weakness. I walk into town most days grocery shopping (bargain/markdown hunting ). Whilst there I always stop for a pot of tea at a local cafe. It's a friendly place with a great community feel so am unsure whether to carry on or stop as I feel guilty spending the money. But it's really my one treat. Any ideas/comments???Am in Norfolk.Sue

    1. Hi Sue, if you need to keep within a budget due to financial constraints or you are saving for something important try visiting the cafe/doing shopping every other day. If you need the company you will still see people and pick up bargains. If your cafe visits are over say 5 days and you only visit for 3, you would save around £300 a year if on those visits you are spending £3.

Also do you meal plan, that is a great saving. Once done, check all your cupboards, fridge, freezer to see the things you actually need rather than buying because they are a bargain. Use substitute brands, most are great and the saving can be enormous. This £20 a week food challenge has been great and despite us watching our pennies on the food side of things, we have still gained important knowledge. Never stop trying or learning.

There are loads of frugal blog's around, find the ones that interest you the most, that speak to you personally and resonate with your ideas. I hope this has been of help to you.

    2. Thank you for that. I was thinking about doing the alternate day plan, so seeing your £300 saving smacked me right between the eyes!!! And, realistically, I may spend more than £3 if I'm tempted by a cake.....I do meal plan and have stocked up the freezer this month in readiness for "FRUGAL FEBRUARY". We will use up what we have , and only buy milk and fruit/veg extra. I always keep plenty of the large bags of pasta I get from Tesco in which helps a lot as you can rustle something up cheaply and quickly that way. Sue in Norfolk. p.s. this weather is a good excuse to stay in and save the pennies!
