Bed 4, from which I harvested the last carrots today, will be covered over to stop weed seeds getting in. Covering it helps prevent the wood (which is only 1' thick) from getting too wet. Herewith my little carrot harvest:
They are between 2" and 3" long and in good condition considering they have been in the ground from last July. I always leave some in for harvesting during winter, they don't seem to mind.
We had some with carrot, tomato and lentil soup. They taste even better toasted which is good as soda bread doesn't last as long as normal. Made this type of bread as I had quite a bit of yoghurt and whey to use up.
The bread looks lovely - there's something pleasing about the consistency of soda bread. You could sell those carrots for £2 or more in the supermarket!
ReplyDeleteThank you, we like soda bread for a change. Carrots aren't too bad considering.
DeleteThe carrots look great. I've bought some pelleted carrot seed to sow in a few weeks time. Never had much luck before so I'm hoping my luck changes. Bread looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteJust keep trying different varieties and don't give up!
DeleteMy carrots all rotted in the ground this year so I'll have to clamp them next year. My ground is quite wet though.
ReplyDeleteI love soda bread as well with homemade soup as well. Just with a few oats in the mix is nice.
Carrots wouldn't survive here in the ground either but seem fine in the raised beds.
DeleteMost definitely going to try making soda bread at some point DC, looks scrummy ;-)
ReplyDeleteJohn
thank you! Give it a go as it's one of the easiest breads to make.
DeleteYour bread looks delicious DC. I've never made it but if it's easy that'll do for me! P x
ReplyDeleteGo on, give it a go!
DeleteI do love soda bread but have never made it with different flavourings, must give it a try.
