Sunday is our weigh day on the Wii, and we usually treat ourselves to a pudding of some kind. Being Mother's Day and not having planned to go out anywhere, I thawed some cooking apples and damsons and made us a fruit and ginger sponge:
We shall eat it over three nights. First night was with yoghurt, second and third with custard. Yum!
On the subject of baking, cooking from scratch, Rhonda has linked to a rather long article on how our food, even simple things we might eat, has been treated in a way that doesn't always have an understandable label of its treatment or ingredient!
I suggest you have a drink snd hold the biscuit whilst you read about it here
Oh dear I just ate a biscuit! I know we are being quietly poisoned. I just wish the government would enforce the food industry to be more honest. Processed food is so cheap and some families are living on it. The pudding looks amazing:)
ReplyDeleteSad and frightening at the same time. It is a worry though if you can't even trust fresh fruit and vegetables.
DeleteI am appalled by that article. We grow our own veg mostly and I think we need to do more. It worries me that companies are allowed to cheat and replace traditional "nasties" with nicer sounding alternatives some of which do not have to have the E number labelling.
ReplyDeleteWhat to do though when they are pulling the rug from beneath us taking away our ability to make an informed decision.
DeleteThank you for that link, I've read other books by Joanna Blythman she has been "outing" the secrets of the food industry for many years. I've now ordered this new one from the library also added Frugality Hub Uk to my reading list after noticing it on your sidebar. Good job I popped in to read your post!
ReplyDeleteArticles like hers just don't get enough advertising.
DeleteThen I deleted Frugality Hub from my reading list when I realised it was full of ads!
DeleteAnnoying isn't it but I shall keep it there for now for people who need to find things out who are new to a frugal life.
DeleteThat pudding looks delicious Dc, just might make one myself, I have some frozen soft fruits...Woo xx
ReplyDeleteWe have so much frozen fruit that needs using before this years harvest!
DeletePudding looks yummy. We were just saying ealier that we need to use stuff up from the freezer rady for this year's harvest. I think we'll be having some sort of fruit pudding this week.
ReplyDeleteI think we still have around 12 lbs or so to use though some will have to be with yogurt to cut calories!
DeleteAs soon as I saw the word damson I was sold! I just love them in everything!
ReplyDeleteThese are the small, hard, sour ones which we like but they need so much sugar:(
