Changing...

I remember when my parents in law were alive, visiting them and noticing how much 'stuff' they had nearby where they sat. I found it amazing and wondered how annoying it must be to shift it all for polishing.

We have always had occasional tables, usual a 'nest' of three, the spare ones tucked away to be brought out, along with coasters when we had visitors. The top one sat in front of the middle of the settee to be shared between us.

I used to be ultra tidy and couldn't imagine being like that. Now, I have a table nearby and DB uses an area close to him. A table no longer sits in front of the settee, instead, TV magazines and remote controls actually sit in the gap between us on the settee!

I have gone from this:
To this:
Believe me when I say the above picture is quite tidy! Have you noticed any of these changes creeping into your way of living?

Have a lovely weekend everyone. I am busy watching the tennis and quite enjoying it so far.

  1. Yes! Yes! My OH and I have noticed/said EXACTLY the same thing! lol! It's a bit scary isn't it? I'm expecting the next stage to be rugs and mats - everywhere!.....rugs on top of rugs..And then, excess kitchen sink 'paraphernalia'..... :-)

    1. I try hard to not clutter the kitchen, have to make an effort there, that really does annoy me.

  2. We`ve also made similar changes in our living arrangements. We have a very small living room, and now we have gone from having a table and two chairs under the window, to having a more comfy sofa and eating our meals now from our laps. There are always TV controls right in front of us on a low table that now also holds DB`s medications during the week when our granddaughter is not around (meds are always put out of reach when the toddler comes to visit). I`m less fussy about housework and tidiness than I would have been years ago. As we get older we get more relaxed about those things, I guess. Priorities change.

    1. Very true. We now eat on our laps as most of the year the dining room is too cold. Always eat at the table though when we have visitors.

  3. I've definitely become less bothered by stuff around me and don't feel quite as compelled to do housework as I used to be, which is saying something for me!! Perhaps we are just realising that life is too short to fuss the small stuff and comfort and ease becomes a priority?

  4. its flat surface syndrome. if it can have stuff rested on it, it will. I got rid of the coffee table for that reason. and invested in a standard lamp I saw in a charity shop with a tiny circular shelf just big enough for a cup and coaster. LOL try leaving everything on that! He cant! lol

    1. Try, though I use the pills everyday and the hand lotion often. I feel I am up and down enough without also getting up for those as well:)

  5. On the table next to my armchair right now...laptop, binoculars for bird watching (we have a nesting pair of sparrowhawks in the woodland at the far side of the paddock), cordless landline phone, cell phone, small box of paper hanks, mug of coffee, nail file, hand cream, glasses case, notepad and pen, and for some weird reason....a magnetic screwdriver!? I assume DH put that there, I shall have to quiz him when he returns from his morning stroll around the village (aka meet up with dog walking friends for a male gossip session)!
Years ago it was no effort leaping up out of a chair to get whatever was needed, but as years progress, it's definitely easier to have stuff to hand!
As for housework, nope, the word means nothing to me!!!!!

  6. I could get up but like you say, it is easier to have it all to hand. Talking about spectacles, i have a pair there, one on the computer desk, a pair in the kitchen, another in the sewing room and one beside the bed! All cheap ones apart from my proper ones on the small table.
