Dull, dull, dull...

Despite starting off and finishing with fog, Sunday turned into a gloriously sunny and mild day. Yesterday was dull and chilly (9C), today is the same but at least the fog has gone.

The weatherman has promised us a break in the clouds and maybe a bit of sunshine later on. There is a slight breeze blowing so the washing machine has been on and we now have a lineful of washing wafting gently outside. I don't expect it to dry, but half dry and after a day or two in the back room (if we get the sun), it will be ready for ironing.

I began a project the other day. Well, to be honest, DB got the first bits ready for me and now I am carrying on with it. All will be revealed soon as I am determined to get it finished within a few more days - yeah right! No, I will really try - honest:)

We are still managing to not have the heating on in the evening, or light the wood burner. It has been on (along with the hot water) for just 40 minutes each morning. Once or twice it has gone on, just until it switches itself off, then I turn it off fully.

I read somewhere recently, can't remember where, that we might be in for a reasonably mild November. Well, that will be a bonus if it happens, especially if the predicted cold winter due to El Nino arrives - who writes these articles anyway and where do they get their information?

Our menu for this week has been updated, still managing to not yet be fully eating winter stodge, another bonus!

  1. I know the weather forecast for our area that I get on my phone changes by the hour .... I'm sure it's just somebody looking out of the window. The long term forecast hardly ever gets it right!!

We've not had the central heating on yet (and at the moment I have the blue fingers to prove it) but we have been lighting the wood burner most nights. Once the house warms up it does hold onto the heat pretty well, thank goodness.

    1. We are sometimes wearing fingerless gloves and an extra cardigan or using a lap blanket.

  2. Weather forecasting, the fine art of predicting nothing.

  3. I've managed to not have the heating on until Sunday when I put it on for a bit, mostly to help dry large quantities of washing. It didn't take long before we were all way too hot so it was off again. You can tell my eldest two daughters aren't at home or they would have been moaning by now!! I tend to work on looking out of the window to tell me what the weather will be!

    1. Although the sun is partially out, I had hoped for a bit more. I know what you mean about getting too hot.

  4. Rayburn alight mornings for hot water and woodburner alight afternoons to keep us warm - I can't bear to be cold in my own home. heavens knows what we'll do if we have to pay for heating

  6. We've put the heating on for an hour or two at night so far for the last week, but not every night though. Have had washing drying in the spare room for a while now as after a day on the line it's still been wet.Very tempted by a tumble dryer but will persevere a bit longer. I've not had a dryer for over a year and our electric bills have really come down.

    1. We do have a dryer and use it for towels as we like them to be soft. We have cheaper overnight electricity so dry then. Everything else is usually line or rack dried.

  7. When my washing does not quite dry I use the iron on dry (no steam) and this finishes it of rather nicely.

    1. We do that when needed but don't have a large area to hang much or even finish drying.

  8. I think it is fair to say we are fully embracing the winter stodge - lasagne, risotto, pasta - it is cheap and filling but already my skirt is getting tighter! Oh well, at least I will survive the winter.
