Good heavens...

Seven weeks today is the big day - where did time go? It seemed just a few weeks ago that there were 18 or so weeks left:(

We have had a busy time pottering about and sorting out. Two more boxes of good stuff for the charity shop we support, a list made on what needs to be prepared in advance on the present, cooking and eating fronts.

We sat and watched Andy eventually win his tennis match. Boy was he struggling. It seemed to be his back and hamstring. He certainly finished his match yesterday with a very slight limp, and it was still there when he played first thing, getting worse as the match progressed.

I'm glad he won though as this was the only 1000 tournament he had not managed to proceed past the quarter final stage. How far he will progress tomorrow will be anyones guess - probably not far.

The weather is certainly mild at the moment which is saving on the heating and logs. Problem though is the rain. I am looking forward to Sunday when I might actually be able to dry some washing outside.

A few days ago, we went to a pub to check out their Christmas menu, so we can have our annual 'school' dinner. Whilst there we thought we would have a little something to eat. DB tested out the mug of soup and chunk of bread which filled him up! So now we all know to have a 2 course rather than a 3 course meal when we eat there.

T. and I weren't very hungry so thought we would have a small bar snack - cheesey chips for £3.50. When she walked out with the plates we thought it was for someone else:
That pile of chips was around 4" deep in the middle and it was on a huge plate. We both only managed just under half a plate each. So wasteful - I can't begin to imagine how much food they must throw away. I think they thought we didn't enjoy them as they enquired if everything was okay.

We explained that we would happily have shared a plate if they had informed us how big the portions were.

Anyhow, that is all for now. Hope you all have a good weekend.

  1. Good value for money for sure, but I hate the large portions that so many establishments send out. Thinking about it they are doing themselves out of serving desserts when they do this.

    1. Very true but at least it is cheaper for those eating but smaller portions would be better.

    1. Never used to, I remember going out fir a treat, usually managing 3 courses because the starter and pudding were small.

  3. We find that we have to limit ourselves to two courses, and we both prefer a starter to a phd, fortunately! But I agree, portion sizes in some places a re ridiculously 'generous'. We had lunch in Holt the other week, and both asked for fries; as the waitress approached I could see the size of the portions and managed to ask in time for one to be taken away. We still had more than enough between us.

    1. We rarely manage two. We went there one evening to celebrate a birthday. We started with a main then shared the smallest pud they had! Still too full so don't do it anymore. For our Christmas meal I have chosen a small pudding.

  4. We find this when eating out too (especially at pubs) the portions and serves are enormous. When you realise that the size of a stomach is about as big as both your fists then I always wonder where it all goes.....yes, wasteful.

  5. I do not eat out often but when I do I have starter and pudding or 2 starters. I often "window shop" the menus in restaurants and am amazed that places still offer 32 oz steak, it has to be stone cold before you are halfway through. Meal portions are mostly too much for me, even at family and friends, I have been invited to dinner and had to refuse pudding only to be offered sweets and savoury snacks 2 hours later. It seems to me that there are many who graze all day, you can hardly walk through a town without smelling fried food as people munch on the go, I even saw a couple come out of the bakery and tear a Victoria sandwich in half to share last week.

    1. Tearing a Victoria cake in half and eating it in the street, good grief! I think I might have to think about a starter and sweet, a good idea, proving the starter isn't too large.

  6. Yup, I agree that some pub meal portions are far too big. I always think it's an education though to watch folk at a carvery, they pile the plates SO high - no room for even an extra pea! What staggers me even more though is it's usually the skinny ones and the plates are clean at the end...utter madness.

    1. Very true and from what we see on the rare occasion we go to those places, they then go back for more!

  7. How did I miss Andy M and tennis on TV?? Must ahve been on a channel we can't get. I've found the masters finals are 15th Nov - hope its on BBC or ITV 4 and not just sky pay.
I can remember being told my my mum that NICE people didn't eat as they walked along the street! Your pic of chips and cheese made me feel quite ill! Much too much

  8. Masters finals in London should be normal not pay tv. We can't afford Sky Sports and as we only want to watch tennis, pay every now and then on pay Tennis TV, timing it right to just watch Andy's matches. Unfortunately it requires a fast speed internet connection, which we have but on occasions it doesn't play ball.
