Winter Food Box

We had a think on what to store our 2016/2017 winter food in, see this post here.

DB went up into the attic to bring down this small trunk:
It used to store DS's lego collection, until he filled it and moved onto a larger box!

Here are my few items:
We haven't decided where to store it yet but it is small enough to sit around somewhere without being a trip hazard!

  1. Have I missed something here? I don't understand that you need to store winter food when we're now in winter and that's what we're using now. Do you not have a larder/cupboard for tinned and packeted goods? My larder contents are much the same all year round, only we eat more salads in winter and fewer casseroles, but that's about the only difference. Perhaps the box is for extra supplies you've bought when there were 'on offer'?

    1. These extra supplies are for December 2016 onwards. We have good storage space for food, a secondary storage area for extra supplies and now this trunk. I have recently given over two cupboards for GF food. These are extra items, bought now, for winter emergencies/Christmas guests etc.

  2. Such a good idea - my problem would also be where to store everything. I struggle enough with pet food, let alone stores for us! I will have to think on it though, because it makes excellent sense.

    1. Pet food can take up a lot of room can't it, as DS and DDiL can verify.

    1. I doubt we will see again the winter our son was born into, but living in a village we can have problems with the roads, electricity failure etc. If next winter, I have no need for it, it can always be discontinued.

  4. I loved those trunks. My kids also had them as toy storage in the 90's in all colours. I can't find them anywhere these days. So handy!

    1. This one has stored all sorts over the years. It became empty when I sorted out crafting materials to dispose of.

  5. excellent idea - though space is very limited in my house so it would have to go outside!
