Slippers...

The other morning, we watched out neighbour see his partner off to work, wearing his slippers. It got me wondering how we all different when it comes to wearing them - if indeed you do!

Ever since we married, we have tried to make sure we don't wear our slippers outside, working on the principle of clean soles equals clean carpets. It helps enormously to keep the carpets clean as well. We also like them as for the most part, they are comfortable and a change from being in shoes all day.

Sometimes, I don't wear any but double sock instead, especially if I have knitted myself some slippers for the winter. DB has had a habit of stepping on the back of his full slippers, almost turning them into mules. I am pleased to say, he is trying hard with the latest pair to not do it, as quite frankly, it is becoming a trip over hazard:(

Do you wear slippers, if so do you keep them just for the house to help keep your carpets clean or do you just wear them for comfort and wander outside in them for a quick trip such as putting rubbish out, letting the dog outside to go to the toilet etc?

Have a lovely if wet slipper filled weekend.

  1. I only wear slippers (LLBean) when I get up in the morning as they don't really have any support. Later in the day I put on a pair of athletic shoes that I keep just for the house. Americans almost unfailingly remove their outdoor shoes when entering their homes whatever the weather and whatever the state of the soles. Not so much in the U.K. I remember.
If you remove your outdoor shoes it will keep a lot of pollutants and heavy metals out of your house, not just dirt.

    1. Keeping dirt and pollution out of the house is the main reason we do it.

  2. I don't wear slippers as I feel so sloppy in them, and feeling sloppy isn't how I like to feel. Also, my feet need more support that slippers can give, so I wear a pair of those trekky style sandals in the house. They are not glamorous but at least they support my feet. I do wish I could find smart slippers which are more like shoes, though. I've seen some lovely black velvet embroidered ones, but they are a three figure price, and I'm not prepared to pay that much for slippers. However, as we're indoors quite a lot, it would make economical sense to have a really good pair on my feet!

    1. I would agree that by themselves, slippers don't offer much support but do if you put foot support liners inside them.

  3. Slipper for inside only! I take off shoes in the porch. Yes, it does certainly help to keep the carpets clean.
Hope you have a great weekend.

  4. We have tiled floors throughout the house so I have a pair of mules that I use as slippers but I can wear them outside as well . I all ways wear socks to keep my feet warm . If it is very hot weather I have been known to wander about outside in bare feet this drives my hubby mad but I love the feeling of freedom .

    1. We are mainly gravel outside so no bare feet although I do go barefoot in the house in hot weather.

  5. I prefer socks in winter and bare feet in the height of summer. Slippers live at bottom of stairs for the cold morning trip to make tea. Like you we try to keep shoes outside as it keeps the floors/carpets cleaner. Also having lots of Asian relatives/friends we are used to removing shoes on entering a house. It makes you very aware of holes in socks!

  6. I've only just begin to wear slippers - on occasion! I'm a bare-footer, with thick socks in winter. Outside it is clogs in the garden taken off at the back door. Unless, like Christine, above, I am out there in my bare feet! Hoping not too much rain today after all we got yesterday (plus sleet!!) But sunshine for 3-4 hours in the afternoon was lovely. Hoping this continues today!

  7. I've got some thick slipper socks, they were getting worn on the soles so I stitched some pieces of leather on them. I have a pair of falling apart boots with no laces in just by the back door, so I change into them.
