Recently .....

For my birthdays and Christmas, I have been receiving silicone bakeware as presents.

I had already bought a 6 part muffin one and used it for gluten free yorkshire puddings, with excellent results. They rose well and popped out like a dream. I have just received another one, which will be handy for when I want to make 12 small cakes or 12 yorkshire puddings.

I already had a square version and have just received another, very handy. It means I can use the cheaper version I bought, for roasting meats and save the new one for baking. As well as baking cakes in it, I shall trial flapjacks and quiche to see how it fares.

The latest thing I had bought me was a longish loaf pan. I have read up on whether it is suitable for bread but most reviews seem to say no. However, I think for baking in general, it should also work fine.

Has anyone used these products, what did you use them for and how did it go?

  1. I have used them and they do work well. My only worry was would the silicone leach into the food...it didn't deter me though.

    1. I suppose it depends on how often you bake or cook. I think only once a week, if that, for us.

    2. I do use the little cupcake cases as it is less wasteful than using paper cases. However, I find them a bit of a nuisance to wash and think something on the larger side, such as your loaf pan would be more convenient. Good luck with your baking !

  2. I used silicone products a few years ago but didn't like them and went back to my old baking tins. I just found them difficult to handle.

  3. I have just one long silicone loaf tin. I use it for cakes as I do bread in the bread maker. I find I go to this loaf tin all the time. Easy to handle and wash up. I did a bit of a google about silicone leakage into food. I am satisfied it is as safe as it can be. Even some baking parchments are silicone coated. I only have the one silicone one though. :)

    1. Did it bow out along the sides when filled?

  4. I have several pieces of silicone bakeware, to make them easier to handle I put them on a baking tray, I am sure there is no health risk, or they would have been removed from the market by now.

    1. Yes, definitely need a tin underneath but what about stopping the bowing out of loaf tins if you don't have a metal one to put it in.
