Decorating the house at last...

When we spend Christmas on our own, I find it difficult to really get into the spirit of it, hence room decorating gets delayed until I feel in the mood to do it. Ready now!

Here is the mantelpiece:
And some of the Paul Jones paper decorations from the 1960's:
The Advent whirlything (on a temporary piece of cloth as it normally lives in the dining room:
Finally the tree - daytime:
And night time:
It normally stands on the floor but we have made it smaller - as it is in a different part of the room - by only using the top 2/3rds - looks fine I think.

There are a few other items scattered around, plus I might also bring in some greenery nearer the day.

  1. It all looks lovely and very festive. Our house this year looks a bit technicoloured, I seemed to throw every decoration we have at it and the end effect is a bit like a firework display, not my best but it certainly cheers everything up. I like your mantel which looks very warming with the log burner firing away. A very happy Christmas to you and your DB. Regards Sue H

  2. DH helped me yesterday to clean the living room and hall as I seem to have hurt my right hand. As we are on our own from 22nd December to 3rd January, it seemed hardly worth while putting decorations up. dH doesn't bother nyway but I think he realised yesterday that I was struggling, and suggested that the time had come to bring out the decorations. Almost all handmade by me/us so the living room and hall are now looking festive. Catriona

  4. It all looks lovely - the wood burner looks so cosy! The paper decorations bring back happy Christmas memories. I tried to get my 2 granddaughters into paper chain making - they weren't really interested but I suppose a bit too young at 4&2. I'll carry on making them instead.

    1. When we were skint, we saved all the coloured pages from the Radio Times and made paper chains from those, looked grand. Crepe paper was our go to for garlands.

  5. I'm feeling guilt about not doing the big tree - shall I make an effort?

  6. I think Christmas decorations bring a sparkle to the house at this dull time of year. It is a effort but hubby and I do it together. I love your wood burner I am desperate for one........Please Santa I have been very good!

  7. I, also, use just the top two thirds of my tree. Except, now the pre-lit lights no longer work, had to put on additional strings. But it looks great now! My father used to say, "Any tree looks beautiful when it is all decorated". And he was right!
