Training...

I don’t know about you, but if people advertise themselves as dog trainers, have a contact form to fill in, then don’t get back to you, I find it very irritating to say the least.

We filled in two such forms when Ruby was just 5 weeks old, no reply. Phoned them, left messages, no reply. Finally I found another one in Ashill and Brockdish, who trains by rewarding good and correct behaviour and not using food treats. They train to various levels in different disciplines, no money upfront, just pay on the day. Ruby had her first class today, I think I was as tired as her by the end. Good session though!

He actually answered our email within an hour of finishing a training session!

Have a great weekend everyone.

  1. Yes, very irritating indeed. How on earth do they get any business? Good luck with the training sessions....is it a class with other doggies, or one to one? We took Betty to a class initially....it was an unmitigated disaster, far too many dogs (14 I think), all in various stages of training, and Betty was just far too excited by so many dogs to actually learn anything. Plus the class was only 30 mins long, which meant each dog only got about 2 mins actual training. Completely chaotic and useless. We then found a one to one trainer who was absolutely brilliant.

    1. 6-8 from what I can gather. All puppies of varying ages. On a lead, except for recall and retrieve, spaced far apart. 1 hour long but they do 1-2-1 plus residential.

  2. Good luck with it all. I'm sure the rewards will be big for you when Ruby's the perfectly behaved pooch that she's going to be!

    1. Just done a little training in the back plus a short walk. Huge difference on the walk. Zonked out now.
