Thought I'd show you our monthly shopping list document that we use. It changes slightly depending on what we need and not all items are selected but you get the idea.
We top up once a week if needed with fresh fruit and vegetables or anything that we've either forgotten or has run out before we thought it would. We buy most of our meat (not very much at all) from the butcher's so hardly any is listed here.
Is this a list you have made up - when you say ordered - do you get a supermarket delivery?ReplyDelete
Yes we have made up this list ourselves and yes, this is our once a month delivery on the cheapest delivery charge. We don't like trooping around the shops, so get as much as we need delivered (especially anything bulk) then anything else needed, is picked up not more than once a week in with any other things we need. Sometimes, we only need fresh food once a fortnight. One could argue about having it delivered and do shopping weekly but we like doing it this way. Top ups are usually done at Aldi or Lidl.Delete
Money doesnt seem to be a lot these days does it? I have noticed that while I have been at home this week and cooking from scratch we seem to have eaten better for less.ReplyDelete

I love lists like this - intrigued that suet pops up twice [are you real dumpling fanatics?] But couldn't see gravy granules [I use thee quite a bit] In our house gherkins are something of a treat...but pickled onions [oh, I guess you probably pickle your own, don't you?] Oh and I buy golden syrup as well as maple [Aldi are v good for m/s aren't they] I don't buy fishcakes- I do buy frozen white fish fillets...otherwise this list is almost identical to my checklist.ReplyDelete

No, I was copying from an old list and making a new more relevant one. Second suet has now been removed - thank for pointing it out. I occasionally make pickled onions but it we want some quickly, I follow a recipe from my M in L. Thinly slice some onion, sprinkle a little salt and sugar over it, pour on vinegar, stir and leave for a couple of hours. Enjoy. The trick is only to prepare as much as you need otherwise it goes a little soggy. The same can also be done with slices of cucumber.Regarding my list, the items listed are what I nearly always need at some time, anything else is added into the spaces or at the bottom.Delete
Angela, forgot to add about seeds, this is a reminder to me to let DB know (he orders) whether I need sunflower, pumpkin, linseed etc although I prefer to buy them in the sale at Holland and Barrett.Delete
I love lists too! I've had a master copy for supermarket shopping for the past 5 years, and because I shop fortnightly its a great way not to miss anything! Interesting seeing someone else's list (its actually very similar to mine) except we haven't been able to buy marmite for the past year and a half because the Marmite factory fell down in the earthquake - hmm really beginning to miss marmite X0) My goal this year is to cook a lot more from scratch - so am watching your recipes for ideas!
