The New Garden...

First of all, welcome to some new followers, Alison Young via here and Diane Strong and Stacey Wall via Bloglovin. Glad to have you.

Almost everything has reached the tops of their strings, in the new bit of west facing garden, down the drive, near the garage.
Not many of the beans on the one runner bean plant have set but I am still hopeful. The flowers on the French beans are just opening. Both tomatillo's in this part of the garden are growing well, flowering and beginning to set fruit (hidden inside these husks). I have 2 more elsewhere.
The tomatoes - Bambino - are doing very well so far, so hope we don't get blight. Each plant has rapidly grown and set 4 trusses with another two on the go. We might not ripen all of them but hopefully, they will finish off in the conservatory if needed.
For winter, I think I shall lay some manure on top of the soil and let the worms take it down ready for digging over next Spring. Haven't decided yet whether to set Spring flowers in there or just leave it.

All in all, we are very pleased with this newly developed bit of garden and hope to begin harvesting soon.

  1. Hello! Thanks for the mention! We are currently paying off our mortgage in the hope we could afford to upscale to a slightly larger house and a much larger garden. We are trying to be frugal along the way and save the pennies as well as the pounds. I look forward to following your blog and taking many tips and much inspiration :-)

    1. We managed to pay ours off early by converting part of DB's pension. Getting rid of the mortgage was great but left us on the same amount of money for 5 years - hence the war diary entries.

  2. Holidaying in lovely Norfolk at the moment. I love the garden pictures. My runner beans are looking very sad this year. I have a water meter and the water butts have been empty. Lots of lovely rain in the Cotswolds where I live so hopefully runner beans will be more perky on my return home. Keep sharing! Your garden looks fab :)

    1. Thank you. We too have a water meter so when the butts were empty and the plants looking decidedly sick, we used the bath water on them to keep them going. Nicely filled now after the rain last night.

  3. You have a lovely lot of tomatoes there and the tomatillos look interesting. Have you grown them before and what do they taste like? Xxx

    1. Thank you. It is really difficult to say what they taste like. We only use them as the basis for a tomatillo sauce for cooking with. Probably like green tomatoes but with a slightly acidity to them!

  4. What wonderfully long trusses on your tomatoes - mine aren't doing as well as normal except for the Sungold which never seem to let me down.

    1. Thank you, I don't remember them being that long last year.
