Moving onto felt

Welcome to my new reader, Phyllis. Both yesterday and today, the sky is blue, with many a cloud, and a brisk cold wind. At 09:20 it is around 4C. Now back to my old college work.

A couple of weeks that I really enjoyed were those associated with wet felting. What a joy it was to discover this technique:)

The initial element (earlier on in the course and which I hated) was to draw patterns using charcoal attached to a 6' cane, held in your wrong hand! I mean I ask you, it perplexed us all and for each session, my frustration knew no bounds! The tutor however, was proved right later on when we ended up selecting the best bits from the drawing (8" square samples) to turn into felt. My initial bit of drawing were the two top left. However, once we could colour in bits of it, this 8" square (top right) interested me a lot more. We were not allowed to fully felt these pieces, that would come in the following week.

The second lightly felted representation was this one:
We then had a couple of weaving weeks (which I'm not putting on here for now as they are not suitable for applique work at the moment). After that, we could concentrate on the elements we liked most and I chose to stick with felting. More to follow in the next post.
