Good Friday Baking

Being Good Friday, I would normally have already made our Hot Cross (less) Buns, but yesterday was such a messed about day, that nothing got done that needed doing.

This morning, I have made 8 (eaten one on the photo below) Spiced Chocolate and Orange ones,
following a new recipe, which can be found here
They are very nice but the bottom of them caught on my new tray so I shall have to remember to double line it in future.

Also, I have made a half sized portion of a recipe for a Classic White Loaf, (normally makes 2)
which can be found on The Iowa Housewife blog, recipe here

Today has dawned bright but breezy and that breeze is cold. Shan't be going anywhere near the seaside! Don't really fancy a stiff breeze at a temperature of 6C - it will feel far colder than that. No, better to stay at home, bake, get on with yesterday jobs, stay out of the traffic madness and just enjoy ourselves.

  1. I`m also staying put. Weather is a little better her in the South, so a little bit of garden care is on the cards. I`m not indulging in the Easter chocolates or cakes. Business as usual in my household.

    1. We drove out on Saturday to go see a nearby Bluebell wood, very pretty it was too.

  2. Your buns look delicious - you can see the ornage tinge to them, and that bread looks divine!
It was beautiful here yesterday - quite warm and very sunny so I did some painting outside and J decorated the toilet. It's not quite so nice today as there's a stiff breeze. I went to town early this morning to buy another roll of wallpaper as we didn't have enough - that's 3 rolls of plain paper to do a toilet! I must make a note somewhere of how many rolls it has taken so I don't make the same mistake again.

    1. Thank you. Warming up here a little, but cloudy all morning with a stiff breeze. What a good idea, a decorating notebook. It would also let you know paper for each room as well as how much paint!

  3. Your hot cross buns sound very yummy. I haven't made any for year. I have a feeling I'll be in the kitchen this weekend - keeping warm. Popped out today and it was positively very chilly. Enjoy your Easter.

    1. I decided to make some this year just to try out this recipe. They are lovely but another time, we will not put the cocoa powder in and use the chopped chocolate as a flavour.

  4. Oh Lord! Is it a whole year since we did that 'hot cross-less buns' thing? My word doesn't time fly when you're having fun! I've been cooking but not baking lately - too much other stuff to think about! But Jim did bring some shop-bought ones home today. Tut tut!! Happy Easter to you and yours.

    1. Most shop bought ones are lovely. Hope everything is okay, I was getting worried about your absence. We know how much time 'family business' can take up and think about you and yours.
