Trial and error

Remember just a short while ago, showing you my nose as it was slowly transforming into something red and blotchy. Well, had to go back to the doctor's the other day as it was very red and angry looking, with raised thick skin (beginning to feel like a clown with my own belisha beacon!).
Despite being only halfway through treatment, I had to stop as it seems I had too big a response to the treatment! Instead I have been given a cream to put on for 2 weeks, antibiotic and cortisol to heal and calm. All being well, in the next 30 days or so, it should return to normal.

The bird box attached to our apple tree in the back garden didn't contain Coal Tits but Great Tits and over 2 days they fledged. Two came out but the other refused for a couple of days. Eventually they were all out, hopping on the ground.

I took this photograph of two of them at long distance, as didn't want to scare them. Not the best way to take a photograph with my little camera but at least you can see them. They were busy playing near our newly re-vamped water butts behind the garage:
Finally, I bought a tin of tomato puree the other day and having used some, wondered what to do with the rest. Well I decanted them into ice cube trays and froze them:
Hopefully, they will keep fine and as each one contains one tablespoon, should work well in most of my recipes.

    1. Ha ha. Actually, it looks but doesn't feel sore yet. Mind you, it might do once it starts to peel:(

  2. Oh I am sorry about your nose. But hopefully now with the right cream etc it should get better soon.
Such a good idea freezing into cubes. I will be doing this now.

    1. Thank you, sounds like you got caught by the sun! Normally I buy tomato purée in tubes so its not a problem but although this was cheaper, once opened, had to think how to keep it.

  3. Oh, poor nose! Did you catch a sunburn to end up like this?
I shall copy the ice cube tray idea. Brilliant way to save left overs.

    1. No. I was having medical treatment to remove several solar keratosis', which if left untreated, might go on to become possible skin cancer cells.

    2. Sorry to read about that condition. I do hope you finally are given the correct treatment to sort it all out. Best of luck with it!

  4. I suffer from acne rosacea which gives my nose a similar appearance, unfortunately I can only clear it with antibiotics and staying away from all stress. But it is horrible to walk around with a red nose, people think you are a heavy drinker!!! X

    1. Oh dear, not a nice condition, hopefully you can control it well enough with your medication. Don't know if you can hide it with make up or whether that makes it worse.

    1. Thank you. The tomato purée has has frozen well. I left it in the open trays for 2 days when they just popped out. Ever so slightly tacky but solid if you know what I mean.

  6. I hope your nose heals quickly! Like the commenter above I also have acne rosacea, and it is similar in appearance. Your ice cream tray idea for freezing the leftover tomato sauce is brilliant!

Lovely to see the fledglings - we've had some that were sitting on part of the bird feeder with their mouths open still waiting to be fed!

    1. Getting better every day, today is the last time I'll use the 'repair' cream. Baby blackbirds seem to be huge and still expect to be fed!
