Sorting and putting away

DB has finally psyched himself up to go into the very cold attic to give it enough of a sort out so we can get the decorations down and put up this weekend - well, the tree bit at least.

I have just finished the final bit of sewing so my sewing table in the spare bedroom, can now be dismantled to get it ready for DS and FDiL when they visit:
If I never make another version of the thing I have just finished, I shall be very pleased. Seemed very easy but was far more difficult than I first though. The desk used to be my office and work space in days gone by when I was self employed.

Can't show you what I have just finished as it is for someone but have taken photographs to show you the final thing. Should be quite a bit of gift making to show you early next year! I just need to arrange to see someone to drop their little present off plus after our walking day next week, we shall exchange gifts with E. and T., so another little job done.

I made some spicy sweetcorn soup for lunch, it was a little too spicy so added some coconut powder to it, very nice addition:
We were certainly warm after finishing our lunch:)

Well that is it for now, have a lovely weekend everyone.

  2. I love your little sewing area, thats a good idea for the cottons, you are giving me ideas, one thing I must look out for next year are your soup bowls, I love them, your soup and bread always looks so good.

    1. You can buy them but as I have now changed over to bamboo knitting needles, DB measured and cut up the ones that were thin enough to go through the centre of the cotton reel. He then drilled small holes into a piece of wood and glued them in. They are tall enough to also house a bobbin in the same colour. The soup bowls are Le Creuset and come in different colours. Someone (often DS and FDiL) sometimes buys me those make of things as a gift, as they are a tad too expensive for me to feel justified in buying them. Bread has gotten better over the years as I have made it. Had some right heavy ones to begin with!

    2. Your sewing area looks great, I really must find a home for my sewing machine and actually use it.

    3. It has made a huge difference to just be able to walk in and sew!

    4. If you have a TK MAXX anywhere close, they often have Le Creuset things (slight seconds) at vastly reduced prices. Often they're reduced because they're an older colour, which isn't selling so well. I bought my big Le Creuset casseroles from John Lewis and paid an absolute fortune for them, but have had them for many years already and they're still as good as new. For smaller items though, I check out TK MAXX whenever I get the chance, I've bought soup bowls, milk jugs, ramekins and loads more, and you honestly can't tell that they're seconds.

    5. Thanks for that information. I tend not to buy them as they come as gifts for a birthday or Christmas. The soup pots are pot and we are always afraid they will get broken during washing up!

    6. Don't worry about them breaking during washing up, Le Creuset ceramic is really tough. Mine have been 'clonked' against taps, edges of granite worktops etc loads of times and are still intact....it takes a lot to damage them!

  3. I have just bought a PFAFF sewing machine :-) its so different from my New Home, I got a free course on how to get the best from it which is on January 29th, I'm really looking forward to that. Lovely soup, we had carrot and corriander yesterday at our Christmas Lunch.

    1. I got so annoyed with it at times as it is a little too clever!

  4. I need to get my machine back out tomorrow - I still have to finish sewing Christmas gifts! I'll have to bring it downstairs as the attic room is an absolute tip ( again!!). Good job it's a nice lightweight model.

    1. Careful coming downstairs then! Might do an adjustment on the thing I have just finished as it doesn't look quite right in the cold light of day.

  5. I almost fainted when I saw how tidy your sewing room is!!! Mine is NOT for public viewing! Especially as I am reluctant to even go in there at the moment. Soup looks relish. Might yoghurt have worked too? I know they put it in curry if it is too hot, to "cool" it down, spice-wise.

My intention, around early November, was to make some culinary gifts for close friends - but they didn't materialise, so have given them each a little selection of things i bought at various craft fairs, handmade soaps, greeting cards and so on. NEXT YEAR i shall be prepared!

    1. You should have seen the dining room table and settee! Didn't think about yogurt which I would normally use, coconut powder worked okay and gave it an added taste element.

  6. I treated my Janome to a thorough clean this morning and then tucked it away inside the cabinet. I will not be needing it until the new year. I have the smaller machines to use if I have to sew. It is yarn, hooks and knitting pins now.

    1. DB asked about if I needed to do emergency sewing but I could do it on the dining room table.
