tootling along...

Been for my monthly massage, the last before Christmas. C. has been given a jar of home made Brandy and Ginger marmalade as a gift. Another one will be given to our Chiropractor N., when we both visit her next week.

Yoghurt is being made:
Wholemeal and Rye bread is done:
The last of the tomato and lentil soup has been eaten:
I have still to cook the vegetable and pork curry for tea but yesterday, my nose started running and today it is still doing so, on and off and I have a bit of a thick head. Hopefully it is not a cold starting as I don't have the usual sore throat but who knows!

Before starting on the tea, I'm posting this, then cheering myself up by having a milky coffee and piece of cake:)

  1. Im just reading this while having my milky coffee and warm buttered scone :-). We have never been very successful at making yogurt, I have tried different ways and recipes and even bought very cheap an Easiyo pot with the sachets, all to no avail, we just buy the buckets of Greek yogurt from Lidl now. Hubby put the breadmaker on timer last night so we would have fresh bread this morning and he didn't put the paddle in properly, so this morning we just had a cooked sticky mess in the pan...yuk! I'm glad you have more success with your bread and yogurt, soup looks delicious too :-)

    1. We didn't like the list of ingredients in the Easiyo so just use 1/2 a small tub of yeo valley live yoghurt (freeze the other half). We begin with 2 tablespoons of dried milk stirred in a little of 1 litre semi-skimmed, then once a cream add the rest of the milk. We then microwave it for 8 minutes on full - mustn't boil, put the bowl in another bowl of cold water to bring it down to between 40-43C then stir in the fresh yoghurt. Pop it into the yoghurt maker then 6 hours later it is usually ready.

  2. I bet they really appreciate the marmalade, very kind of you. Your soup and bread is just what I could do with today, the weather here in Devon has turned extremely cold, its not warmed up at all today.

  3. More of that lovelysoup will no doubt fill you with vitamins and nutrients and help knock that threatening cold on the head. I love your knobbly home made bread, it looks as bread should look.

    1. I think it goes knobbly as I slash it with a razor blade just before it goes in the oven. If its overhanging ears get to big, we cut those off (and eat) before slicing the loaves to freeze.

  4. Just came to the comments to ask for the recipe you use for your yogurt as we have one of those but I haven't had much success with it lately - and I see that you have already shared your method in another reply. Thank you - I shall dig it out and have another go. I hadn't been heating the milk as you describe so perhaps that will improve matters!

    1. I don't know for sure if heating the milk is correct but if I don't, it doesn't seem to work so well. Also if you forget the milk powder, the same thing happens. 6 hours is the minimum wait, sometimes leave it for 7 or 8 but no longer. Remove from heater and put in the fridge to get cold. We make it almost every week but it is not as thick as bought versions as they often have thickeners in them.

    1. Don't feel ill but also don't feel well, most peculiar! Hope yours doesn't go onto something nasty.

    1. Thank you. I'm hoping it is going away as the 'flow' has slowed down thank goodness!

  7. Hope you're feeling more yourself today Dc. I've been sneezy and my Mum has been shivery , so we both thought we were sickening for something, but we feel okay now - all very strange. We haven't had tomato and lentil soup for a while - it's been broccoli and cauliflower for us this week.
