Finished

Welcome to Homemaker Tales via here and Jackie Hawkins via Bloglovin.

The new log store (shown below sitting next to its twin which is hidden behind it) is finished! DB has done just about all the work by himself, I only helped hold down things whilst he was hammering the roof from underneath. Wood was donated for the roof from our neighbour J. and apart from buying some Hessian, it was all free of charge:

We now have 3 of these and that should be enough, not just for our logs but also to house kindling, pine cones, other wood to burn etc.

Despite the weather deteriorating at the moment, we hope not to have to light too many more fires so should get away with buying our usual 2 cubic metres of logs rather than the 3 we thought.

I have also updated our menu with meals from last week. Meat staying very low so that is good.

  1. They look brilliant and the pots on the fence really make your 'utility area' look lovely!

    1. The plants in the pots are really growing now, more coming into bloom each week.

  2. Since our woodturner was put in 6 years ago we've never paid for any logs! Very satisfying - but yes, hope we don't need many more evenings of added heat.

    1. Must be nice but we haven't access to free wood except pine cones and kindling. Besides, DB is getting a little too old to be gallivanting around with a chainsaw!

    1. It is amazing what you can do recycling bits.

  4. I love it when people recycle perfectly good items instead of spending hard earned money on new. Your garden looks lovely. I especially like the pots on the wall. I'm going to borrow that idea. My back is in such shape it's hard for me to bend to do gardening so I'm thinking that would work great for growing some herbs outside our back door. (JACKIE HAWKINS)

    1. Me too and thank you. The pots have a mixture of soil and compost in them as I found compost on its own dries out far too quickly. These tubs have alpines in them. I grow in tall raised beds to save my back:)

  5. very tidy are you have there, and I like the look of them. Still too cold to be doing at lot outdoors at the moment, plus I am sick with this cold and cough.

  6. DB has made an excellent job of the new store. It all looks really neat and tidy, and the planters definitely draw the eye away from the bins.

  7. We haven't had to pay for any wood yet - and long may that state of affairs continue! We have enough put away for the best part of the next two two winters. It is wood that has been cut down fresh in the last six months and some is pine so will be for the year after next. We will need to collect a bit to pad it all out.

Our woodstores have been built from pallets with some free fence panels (the kind with overlapping pieces of wood) to roof them. Yours look very smart, though.

If you are out and about in the car, can you watch out for fallen branches etc to bring home in the boot?

  8. Our log stores are in view hence them looking nice. Haven't got a good enough boot for logs but we do pick up twigs and pine cones for kindling.
