Essexgran, please send your address so I can post you your Sunbonnet Sue book!
I used to buy biscuits for us to eat before the start of the walk but now the cooler weather is here, thought I would make something on the day that I bake the bread. Besides, I know what is going into my baking rather than some of the rubbish in shop bought biscuits.
Last week we had Bara Brith:
This week we will have shortbread slices (not the whole tray) the rest is for us for the week:
Two pieces of dough were pulled from the bread dough to make us a bap each for lunch:
We had them filled with tuna and lightly pickled cucumber slices, home grown tomatoes and home grown pears. The rest was turned into our weekly 2 loaves.
Those all look good - I'm just making low fat flapjacks!
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me, how are you making them low fat?
DeleteLike you say you know what goes in, not full of preservatives.
ReplyDeleteWell, when you read the ingredients on some things, its more like a chemistry lesson!
DeleteI used to bake so much when the children were at home. Now I hardly bake at all and when I do it's a packet mix. After seeing your baking I must make more effort b
ReplyDeleteWell, it can be difficult when you are working but I bake because we find all bought cakes (and mixes) way too sweet. We always reduce the sugar when baking.
DeleteWhen ever I read labels I find that most contents are things that I can not pronounce, and definitely do not want to be eating. Your shortbread looks far too yummy.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it stays nice and crisp.
DeleteI like baking a lot, I prefer that you know exactly what is in it - even if that is butter and sugar! xx
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteThey all look lovely. Shortbread is my favourite ever biscuit :-)
ReplyDeleteI always try and remember to pull a little bit of dough off for a bun or two, it's like a chef's perk to eat them warm from the oven.
Warm bread sometimes gives me indigestion!
DeleteThey look delicious. Shortbread is my most favourite. I just had some of the very buttery kind this morning (I'm in Scotland it would have been rude not to). I find home made has far more substance than shop bought. Much better for picnics and out walking. X
