Back to basics...

First of all, welcome to Tracy Cottis via Bloglovin.

Over the festive period, I managed to only add 1lb to my weight so that should be easy to shift. Despite eating mainly gluten free, some of our usual food crept back in. The result - one of my long time problems has re-emerged. Whilst I don't need to eat gluten free, I am going to get back onto it, as this is a problem I can do without!

DB is of a similar mind even though I have let him know he can eat as he wishes. We still have some 'normal' food to get through but shall do so gradually. Here is our usual tomato and split red lentil soup, alongside some home made GF oat bread:

Last year, I mentioned on my blog, that we were going to try and get rid of more excessive 'things' in the house. We didn't manage the 1000 items but did remove from the house, and our lives, a total of 380 items. Probably didn't help that we forgot to do it for 3 months!

They were either given to charity, sold or thrown away where not suitable to either give or sell. We shall carry on this year - must be more ruthless.

  1. Yes, I need to get back into GF too....healthy diet has slipped over the past 2 or 3 weeks and my gut (as well as my waist) is suffering as a result.

    1. We have a couple of normal cakes to get through - slowly.

  2. That's an impressive 'cleanse' of unnecessary items.
I too feel the need to simplify what food I eat - my poor innards!! :(

    1. We have soup a lot. When it is very thick, we are now not going to have bread with it. We try to have fresh fruit after lunch and no puddings during the week.

  4. Love getting back to basics after Christmas and New Year. That first bowl of homemade soup, a good casserole or a cottage pie is sooooo good.
I'm going to be decluttering this year....heaven help me.....there is lots to sort out.

  5. The soup looks really yummy. I do love a good homemade thick soup and some warm bread, very comforting. I`m also decluttering this year, will be starting on the attic first...wish me luck.

  6. I agree with you on the gluten subject. We both feel so much better physically and mentally if we stay away from gluten. This is easier said than done but can be achieved.
I'm sure lots of illness is due to the gluten in food.

    1. Certainly wheat intolerance is a bug bear for some.

  7. I have tomatoes and I have red lentils - so no excuse here. Except, first I have just created a gallon of turkey bone stock and there is a lot of meat in there - any suggestions to zing it up?

    1. I have just done the same with the thin end of a leg of lamb. We used half the meat as a meal, then put the rest into a soup. You could freeze a litre at a time, of drained stock into as many bags as you want and divide the meat into them, or use the stock in any soup plus its meat. We don't like turkey much, so wouldn't be much help I am afraid. Might also be a nice base for risotto!

  8. As I have said before GF is not necessary for the vast majority of people but it is a great money-making enterprise for marketers and purveyors of GF foods. If there was no money in it they would nt be pushing it... Like copper bracelets the placebo effect is very strong. We need to separate out the fads from the true picture and use common sense.
We DO need to control the amount we eat and we need to take exercise.....

Decluttering is on-going....there is a place for everything in my home and everything goes back in it s place... I bought two Rosko carts from IKEA - best things ever.

Sugar is what people should really quit - toxic to the body but that means really giving up cakes, biscuits, scones etc.....unless you use artificial sweetners where IMHO are just as bad..

De-cluttering is on-going but I am really not a pack-rat so it only takes a few minutes a week.

    1. I think we went over this last time, each to their own methinks. Agree with you on portion control and exercise, finding when we do eat out, the meals are just too large.

  9. Wow, you got rid of a lot of things! More than one a day! I hope that you can keep working at it if it is something you want/need to do. xx

  11. You did well to jettison 380 things in a year. We don't have much excess left in our home at the moment ..... well I never count books in that equation ;-)

I will be ruthless throughout this year though and we do intend to have at least one car boot sale, so we have started a box for bits and bobs that we come across day to day in readiness.

That soup looks lovely, I've been having soup most days during this wet miserable weather.

    1. I made a batch of lamb and vegetable today, yum yum! Our jettison includes hooks that we no longer wish to re-read.
