Making jam

We have quite a lot of fruit in the freezer from 2015 and 2016 to use. Whilst we love crumble, we really don't want to be stuffing our faces with it every day. Normally, puddings are reserved for the weekend, helps to keep our weights level.

Pulling out some plums from 2015 and blackcurrants from 2016, the plums in particular were checked to make sure they hadn't gone fizzy! All was well and I managed to make 4 jars of jam plus a small bowlful to have for the next couple of nights, with yoghurt:
Two of them didn't pop their lids into position for a complete seal, so their labels have 'use first' on them. Lovely jubbley!

  1. I think plums make the loveliest jam, they have such a wonderful flavour. I sometimes add a star anise when they are boiling and take it out before bottling - it goes so well.

  3. Looks lovely, you can't beat homemade jam. Funnily enough my post today is about using old fruit for a crumble.

  4. I've never made jam - a jar lasts us a good couple of months so I buy one occasionally. The fruit I freeze goes into crumbles and I always have the same breakfast of Greek yoghurt and fruit so the stash in the freezer always gets used one way or another.

    1. You can make flavour combinations that you can’t buy. However, if you aren’t great jam eaters, no point in making it unless for presents.

  5. What a joy making jam at this time of year. What would we do without our freezers? I have some peach's and raspberries in the freezer when we need more jam.

  7. Nothing nicer than homemade jam. What a good idea to make it using frozen fruit.

    1. Cooks really well, probably because the skins are soft after thawing.

  8. I made lots of plum jam in autumn but I have lots of plum 'mash' in the freezer ready to put in the solar dehydrator at the start of summer to make fruit leather. Love making jam and other bits because you know what goes into it.

    1. Certainly do, which is why we make it as well. Love fruit leather.
