Marmalade for presents...

Finally, a tiny bit of Christmas mojo has arrived. I made marmalade yesterday for some presents. There were 3 jars of orange and ginger, 3 of orange and brandy, one of orange and a small bowl of leftovers for us to enjoy:
We went to buy some more raw food for Ruby and called in at two garden centres where we managed to find presents for our walking buddies and one for someone else. Onwards and upwards.

Ruby likes to sit on her dads knee given half the chance. She can't quite fit:

  1. Christmas send to be on everyone's minds at the moment. It's scary how quickly it creeps up on us. Lovely choice of marmalade flavours.

  2. That takes me back. I used to love making jams and chutneys in the past, don't seem to have the mojo for it now.

    1. Definitely got to be in the mood. However, we love jams etc and eat several jars a year.

  3. I'm going to be jam making this week as I needed freezer space; strawberry and gooseberry this time.
The photo of Ruby and DB made me smile. Our dog used to do the same!

    1. Love gooseberry jam but didn't get enough fruit this year due to the mini 50 day drought, despite watering. She makes us laugh when she does it. It is as though she hasn't fathomed out she needs to lay flat!

  5. Did you put chpped stem ginger in the marmalade? I love the sound of it as I like ginger in all sorts of things. It’s lovely to look at all those jars of jewel like colours. Do you put cloth toppers on in Christmas fabric- I’m about to do that with some jars of chocolates for a christmas fair? PS My now adult nephew used to do that even when he was nearly as big as me!!

    1. Yes. One ball per jar plus 1 tablespoon of the syrup. Gifts have toppers put on them.

    God bless.

  7. Your marmalade looks wonderful! A question for you - How do you seal the jars?

    1. In this country, we don’t have canners so seal slightly differently. Jars are piping hot from the oven, hot marmalade put in, right to the brim, lids screwed on straight away. As the marmalade cools, a vacuum is formed, pulling the lid tight and a pop is heard. It will then store for years. If it doesn’t pop, it gets used within a few months. Same with chutney.

  8. Your marmalade looks lovely.

Dogs don't realise when they've grown do they and still try to fit on knees and into small spaces. She looks very happy to have squeezed onto Dad's knee :-)
