but we have sunshine and blue skies, for the moment. Huge amount of rain swept through between midnight and 3am.
I have done a large amount of washing but it is drying indoors, in front of sunny windows. Doubt it would do much outdoors despite the sun.
We bought a really nice 30 day matured joint of beef from Lidl. I only picked it up because I thought it was on special offer, but it wasn’t.
It was roasted for an hour and 10 minutes on Sunday. We carved enough for 2 meals each. The reminder has been thinly sliced. We are having a roast beef sandwich for lunch. What’s left, will be frozen for another day, maybe one meal each. So 6 meals and 2 snacks for £11. Not exactly thrifty but we sure enjoyed it.
I bought beef and lamb joints just before Christmas when Tesco were selling them at half price. We had the leg of NZ lamb on Sunday - it was a whole leg and I usually just buy the "shank end" - so it was huge. There's a load in the freezer now for future meals and that too was £11. I try to only buy bigger joints of meat when they're on some sort of offer.
ReplyDeleteWe did think about the lamb but didn’t bother in the end.
DeleteNot much rain here overnight. Very cold but without a frost
ReplyDeleteMuch to my surprise washing got dry here today, hung out at 8.15 before I went out and fetched in before 3pm and now on the airer in front of the fire to warm and finish.
My washing dries better later in the season when the sun isn’t blocked by the houses behind us.
DeleteWe bought a gammon joint and cooked it yesterday, husband sliced it today. Enough for 10 rounds of sandwiches in the freezer, along with the 2 chunky end bits for 2 pasta or rice meals. The odd scraps that fell out of the slicer were added to the soup I made today. Buying a joint and slicing it ourselves is so much cheaper (and tastier) than prepacked cold meats.
ReplyDeleteVery, very true.
DeleteWe try to buy a larger joint when there are offers, so that we can get several meals from it. It is always a treat to have a sandwich from the joint and we always enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI’m cooking a chicken this weekend.
DeleteEvery so often we hit a great sale and I can buy a large roast or two. These are sliced in half to make two roasts and packaged for the freezer. Usually we have a roast meal, then there is some for Harvey's sandwiches, and usually there is a bag or two of leftover cooked meat from one of the roasts that can make us another two meals (usually casserole type, or a stir fry).
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Got to love multiple meals from joints.
