I think it is fair to say, Ruby had a shave and a half:

It is the worst one. She had two smaller patches which have now responded to healing cream. The one above is going to take a bit longer methinks! She still has a few raised shaving pimples as well.
Here are her three1cm incisions where the instruments and laparoscopic camera went in:
She has had her last pain killer this morning. Cream has to go on twice a day for 7 days then hopefully, the rash/burn will be healed.
She is eating normally now and raring to go though still has a bit of a tremble and moan every now and then. I gave her a slightly larger than normal tea last night (tripe), which she woofed down.
Ooh, poor Ruby, that looks really sore! Betty had the conventional op and didn't have nearly such an extensive shave, she had a 2 1/2 inch long scar with dissolvable stitches which healed up in no time.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s in case something goes wrong and they have to fully open her up quickly. Wasn’t expecting it or the shaving rash I must admit. She looks so slim without her belly hair which is about 3” long!
DeleteThe trouble with pets is that they can't tell you how they feel. At least your vet gave you some pain killers for her, that must have helped.

She chases light and shadows so even on a lead, when toileting, is liable to jump around at anything.

We had exactly the same thing happen with our Sprocker. Ispotted it when I got her home and she was licking furiously at it and whimpering. I took her straight back and must admit I was quite cross, as the vet nurse was a bit blasé about it until I insisted on speaking to a vet. The vet took one look and immediately prescribed painkillers and told me to use sudacrem on the rash. I suspect that it was the vet nurse I saw who had done the shaving. This wasn’t my usual vet. I only used them because they were the only practice in the area that offered the laparoscopic option.
