Idiots....

Overheard today in a supermarket “I don’t care if I catch it, it’s only like a mild cold. If I want to go shopping whilst I’m ill, I will. Where the f—k is the pasta, ‘twats, those people who are hoarding!”

Lidl - no pasta amongst other items.
Sainsbury’s- no pasta, rice, toilet paper etc.
Tesco - hardly any rice or pasta but toilet roll.
All the above, no cheap medicines.
And so it begins!

  1. My Tesco yesterday had no toilet roll/no pasta/no Heinz baked beans. All other stuff plentiful apart from Paracetamol and hand wash. I've noticed the small shops locally eg. Nisa have normal stock in - YET!! I work from home on a self employed basis typing out sourced work from hospitals country wide. This has slowed down a bit due to the Covid-19.

    1. The work element must be a concern for you so hope you can keep getting some.

  2. I wish it was only like a mild cold - there's no 'pandemic' in a mild cold, is there?

    1. No there isn’t and people who have a couple of days off with flu clearly have never had flu!

  3. We've seen hardly any empty shelves down here in Somerset, and no real panic buying, although the supermarket was busier than usual early this week. Oh, and the supermarket had no cheap paracetamol on the shelves, just expensive branded ones, although we bought it easily from their chemist counter, didn't seem to be a shortage there. No doubt there will be empty shelves and panic buying very soon though, as the herd and panic mentality kicks in. Fortunately, we're well stocked and don't need to go shopping for at least a fortnight, probably longer.

    1. Most shops we visited today were quieter than normal and every time someone coughed or sneezed everyone turned!

  4. Here in our corner of North Wales ALL the big supermarkets are almost completely out of pasta, rice, tinned foods, toilet rolls, tissues and eggs, kitchen rolls are in short supply and the freezers are starting to be depleted of stock.

Rather unbelievably I overheard someone say to their friend "I'm not buying too much frozen food, when the electricity goes off because of the virus it will spoil, I'm sticking with tins and packets" Wtf

I think we now have apocalypse preppers …. watch out for the zombies!!

I managed to find a pack of toilet rolls, and two packs of spaghetti to fill my jar so I'm happy :-)

No, it isn't mild. Here people is dying by hundreds, in need of mechanic breath in ICU because an horrible interstitial pneumonia. Yes, elders and ill people are more vulnerable, but nobody is safe when there isn't enough ICU beds to have breathers. Stay safe, I pray you.

    1. Thank you, you too. I get so annoyed at everyone thinking everyone is only going to catch a mild case of COVID 19. Anyone who has had proper flu will know how bad things can be. ITU’s will probably not be able to cope everywhere if things get really bad.

  6. Well here in the U.S. there was a line to get toilet paper at our Costco. Today had no toilet paper at all at our Wal-Mart. No ramen noodles, no Clorox, no hand sanitize that I wanted for only going out. It is like the world is going crazy. Schools and all sports are closing. The National guard is delivering food to people in a section of NYC that is on quarantine.

  7. Here in Toronto we didn't hit almost panic time until they announced school closures yesterday afternoon! Stores have been packed and there are empty shelves (although they are restocked overnight) but by all accounts people are still polite and it is quite shocking how quiet everyone has been given how many people there are.
I'm always well stocked - the only thing I will look for next week is some frozen veg (have to make some room in the freezer first) and if it wasn't available I'd still be fine.
Today they've shut down all public events, galleries, museums, libraries and ski hills! It's going to be tough on parents!!

    1. It is difficult to know what to get in besides the staples for some, as some people are so relient of ready meals.

  8. It’s been empty shelves here in Exeter for well over a week! It’s ridiculous the amount of panic buying going on. Even flour of every type has disappeared. I only needed one bag of SR and a bag of bread flour. I did manage to get some when I went to a local farm shop for my eggs, but it was a lot more expensive. So it seems the Coronavirus is changing the population into bakers, who knew!

    1. Yes, we also noticed all the flour gone in several shops, plus yeast. Being a bread maker, it has taken me 3 weeks to find yeast at all!

  9. Did you follow the hoarders home? When the world ends its their houses we will start to raid! Sorry watching too many end of the world TV/Films!. Get real people, it is and will happen, and be kind to others. Hoarding helps no one and bad tempers just show up the idiots. Our local community is already organising to support people as things close down.
