Shopping in a new world

We decided to go shopping early, arriving at Lidl around 08:10 hours, the car park was very busy. Inside was busier still and queues for the tills, quite long. Several things were still missing but some previously missing things, were there in small quantities. Most people were shopping and behaving well. Hardly any milk so we came home with organic instead.

Off to Morrison’s next to get the rest plus offal for Ruby. Far quieter in there but very busy at the tills. Still empty shelves, no loo rolls, biscuits and cleaning products amongst missing items.

Then into an extremely quiet town. Most cafe seating areas closed but doing takeaway. Some big stores closed. Bought more knitting wool, a pattern and ribbon to keep me going, then some ear drops (have had odd feeling ears for a couple of weeks now). Paid a cheque in and bought wheat germ and couscous.

Whilst out on our walk yesterday, we called into an egg shop to get hen and duck eggs!

  1. I'm glad you managed to get what you needed, one way or another.

  2. I am hoping to find a few missing items for my pantry and then hopefully staying in for the coming days. Or at least until we have to travel to Regina to take Kris to his specialist appointment.

    God bless.

  3. Everywhere here seems to be much busier than usual, people still seem to be in panic mode. We're all set now, if we have to stay home for a while, so be it.

    1. We were glad to get what we need to carry on making food for Ruby for the next 3 weeks so we’re pleased about that.

  4. It's odd about the milk, I'm sure cows are still producing but it was the same yesterday where I was too

  5. It's all made me really anxious! I'm shopping for my elderly parents - it worries me that I won't be able to get stuff for them - the supermarkets around me are virtually bare no matter what time I go. My local coop has a few things in - I actually got toilet roll yesterday for my mum & dad.

    1. When my elderly MinL was alive, every time I served a main meal for us, I plated a smaller one for her. Once cold, cling filmed and frozen. When I had several I put them in her freezer. Morning carer took one out, tea time one microwaved it for her tea. Would that be possible for you and them?

  6. No flour or porridge anywhere here. Thankfully I still have some. No eggs in Asda, Tesco or SB but got 6 in the co-op. Plenty of milk everywhere but only Tesco has skimmed. My son made the point that we are supposed to be having less contact with people but we have to go to so many shops instead of the one big shop a fortnight they usually do.

    1. I agree with him. If I am the main shopper shortly, traipsing around to get what I need, coming into more contact, taking it home etc.

  7. Obviously for certain items, I’ll have to go to the supermarket, but I’m shopping in the farm shops around us. They’re quieter and for some reason there’s no panic buying. It’s a tad more expensive, but all local, which is another plus :)
