2nd wave and another lockdown coming....

Here are the road and underground pictures from today, see here.

Speaks volumes, not only crowded together but hardly any masks or gloves.

  1. Boris has just confused everyone with his little address to the nation. Thank goodness I live in Wales. The frontline NHS workers must have listened to the announcement with horror, I dread to think what's ahead now :-(

    1. Bet people will still try and go though.

    2. Yes they are doing. A family have just been sent packing from their second home on Anglesey. There is now a build up of animosity towards outsiders coming in and the Police and various bodies are pleading for calm.

  2. I have to admit that the UK response has been rather confusing to me - I'm Canadian but also follow the UK and US news - and have to say "Thank God I live in Canada"!
Here in Toronto the rules have been pretty straight forward - work from home - almost everything closed, exercise in your neighbourhood, no visiting, only go out to the grocery store when actually needed etc.
We are only just starting to ease up slightly after 2 months in lockdown. Ontario - having a larger, urban population has had the second most number of cases in Canada but sadly, it seems that almost 80% of our deaths are related to nursing & longterm care homes (rules have already been changed and more investigations & changes will follow).
This past weekend garden centres and hardware stores have been allowed to reopen - with strict rules.
Today, provincial parks & conservation areas that had been shut for the winter will open for day use only - no camping.
Stores with street front access can open for pickup only - you can't go into the store. Malls are still closed.
In the past 2 months I've only gone into my office twice to pick up documents and to do a couple of hours work that I couldn't do from home - the subway was practically empty. They are cutting transit service today as passengers are down 80% so it will be interesting to see what it's like next time I'm onboard. Transit union wants masks to be mandatory, especially as the city opens up and I think it will come to that - right now its voluntary but most people seem to follow that process - I know I do - masks and gloves whenever I leave my apt.
About a week ago they shut down a huge city park during cherry blossom bloom (usually thousands of people go o see them) and only one person in a city of 3 million was caught sneaking in - BIG FINE!
Our border has been closed for over a month - only truckers cross between the US and Canada and very few overseas flights (with Canadians returning home - no tourists) arrive - and people must go into 14 days quarantine - if they can't prove that they have a plan in place for a place to stay & food on hand etc. then they must go to a hotel designated by the Govt. I can't believe that the UK didn't do this ages ago!

    1. Not a lot we can do about it other than stay home and keep away from people.

    1. Indeed. Are their workplaces ready for them, if not....

  4. Oof. I'm in the US and I understand the frustration. SOOOOOOOOO many people here are being ridiculous and acting worse than my kindergartner about all of this (and she's NOT an easy kid, but she gets that we need to stay away from other people in order to break the chain of illness and keep ourselves and others safe). We're lucky to be in a state where the governor has required that everyone wear masks and he's put in place a very comprehensive plan of benchmarks that will need to be met before we reopen fully. Other states are just having a free-for-all and they're going to see massive waves of death in June and it'll be terrible. I do not understand how so many people can be so callous.

    Hang in there.

    1. Thanks Stephanie. Covidiots seems to be a very apt word, no idea and they will probably survive.

  5. I am pretty sure even with Canada's restrictions there will be a second wave. One only has to look at the people on the beaches in Vancouver BC to know we have our own share of Covidiots.

We were not as strict as some places where you are, but way stricter than places in the United States. So glad the border between our countries is closed other than for essential workers (we do have doctors and nurses that work across the border) and transportation of essential goods.

    God bless.

  6. Scotland is still in lockdown and for that I am thankful.

  7. Having just read a piece on a second wave in South Korea thanks to a night club, I'm sure it won't be long before a second wave hits us :-( Really poor leadership from Boris on this. Thank goodness I'm Scottish and the message is clear here. Stay at home!
