Another thing....

I assumed, wrongly, that when my mobile hairdresser was starting up again, I would get a phone call, but no.

Anyway, due to being mobile, she doesn’t feel happy going from house to house, with the potential of bringing infection in and out. She may start doing that again the end of August!

“No matter says I, I will get DB to trim more off”. “No, I can fit you in, end of July, if you come to me”. She has her own salon with its own door, at her house. She says she is working 6 days a week, 10 hours a day, trying to catch up. Then more on top of that as the months go by, to keep caught up.

I have to wait in the car until called. She allows 20 minutes to thoroughly clean, chair, sink, floor and anywhere else that has been touched. Towels and gown go in a bag, instruments cleaned. Poor woman, she sounded tired and stressed.

On a different note, DGD was 6 months old this week, nearly 4 months old from her due date. She is a bonny girl and to me, seems to be doing everything almost to the time she should. She now weighs just over 11lbs.

  1. Great news on the granddaughter. I haven't had a phone from my salon neither, goodness knows when I'll get in.

    1. I would phone them just in case they aren’t doing it.

  2. I am really looking forward to a haircut but have booked for the end of July as the first appointment available. I'm happy with that as it will give time to see if any spike in virus numbers as everything opens up. Glad everything is well with DGD and hope you see her soon.

  3. I no longer look like a shaggy dog. I managed to get in to see my stylist around the middle of last month. Feel so much better.

    God bless.

  4. How lovely that your granddaughter is doing so well!
As for hair - I had mine cut last Thursday - my salon had been open for about a week at that point.
.Arrive for my appointed time wearing my mask (they had them for customers as everyone must wear)
.Use the sanitizer and have my temperature checked
    .Sign a waiver
.Take a seat covered in plastic - one other client in the shop as far away from me as possible
    .Disposable cloak
.I've washed my hair at home so it just gets wet with a spray bottle
.4 inches cut off and thinned out all over - what a relief!
.Prices have gone up 10% and there is a $5 charge for PPE and extra cleaning etc. - No problem, I'm just glad they are being so responsible.

  5. Excellent news about DGD!
I'm having my hair cut tomorrow, and KL is having hers cut and coloured at the same time. She went for a patch test earlier, and said all precautions are being taken.
It's all about calculated risk I think, though I'm probably more relaxed than most due to J being at risk throughout due to no PPE or social distancing despite working in a hospital, and KL returning to the office.

  6. I was never fond of going to the salon and having a stranger cut my hair, they never did as I asked and I always seemed to get a stylist that was rough with yanking my hair and jerking my head around. I have been having my husband cut my hair for me for years, as the salons were closed, I was still getting my hair trimmed on the regular schedule. So I would agree that having your husband DB trim your hair is a smart move.

    1. I have cut my husbands hair for nigh on 40 years. He has only been allowed to lightly trim mine during lockdown. I have been with my mobile lady for many years and she always asks what I want and does it. I am lucky.

    2. I had a lot of haircut horror stories from the salon, and I know other women that dread the salon as well. Hubby took over giving my two teen boys their haircuts when they were quite young due to bad haircuts at the barbershop and he continues to do so every three weeks. I figure it saves me over $1500 a year, and he also gives haircuts to my best friend as he fixed a bad salon haircut for her and she has continued to have him cut her hair for her. So I am definitely not going around with wonky looking hair, nor are my boys, he does great work and when my friends ask me if they could have him cut their hair, I know I have it pretty good.

    3. Yes, I have always cut my son’s hair although his wife has taken over now. If he needs it cutting during a visit, I do it. Like you say, has saved a fortune over the years.

    4. That is funny that your son’s wife has taken over that job, but you will still give him a haircut when he visits. I guess that he likes your work better than his wife’s barbering skills. Hope that doesn’t cause any hard feelings. My husband’s daughter has had him trim her hair when she has come to visit. Her husband is in the Coast Guard and needs more regular haircuts to comply with regulations, but he has been slow to trust her with the clippers, although she did shave his hair once before he left for his initial boot camp training. She does believe that it will save them a lot of money given that he needs a haircut every 2-3 weeks.

    5. She cuts as well as me. I rarely do it now unless a cut is needed and that coincides with a visit. We use different types of clippers.

  7. Excellent news about your granddaughter, I'm so glad for you (and everyone else, of course).
Hair day is Friday for me. Sharon is coming to mine so I will wipe everything down before and after and I know she's taking all the precautions with her own equipment as she always does. I need to ask her about masks but have them ready.
    xx

    1. I normally wear a mask that has the elastic sitting on top of my head so have bought a pack of 5 that go around my ears. Surely though at some stage, I will have to hold it in place so she can cuts around my ears?

    2. I wore a shop-bought mask for my haircut today, bought because the ' elastic' was narrower. My hairdresser managed perfectly without me needing to remove it from around my ears, and my hair has been cut very short, so you should be fine.

  8. I haven’t been to a salon for years. I live in a small area and have had a mobile one for many years.

  9. I haven't made a hair app. I had a re-style 2 weeks before lock down, it was a lot shorter than I anticipated so I'm not too over grown!
