Wet!

Rain arrived overnight and the air smells lovely. It has scuppered our plans for tackling some garden work at DS’s house. Next thing to think about doing is painting DGD’s bedroom but I’m not sure the light is good enough for that either, we shall see.

Ruby has just come back, very wet, from a walk with the other dogs. She doesn’t understand the house rules here so just occasionally looks sad. The other dogs would normally play with her but don’t want to, so she doesn’t understand that either. Two different packs now I guess.

DGD is a joy. All the pictures and videos make her appear bigger than she actually is. She has grown tremendously since we last saw her, but is still, to us, dinky do. As sad as that must sound, I am glad as it somehow makes her seem new born. Mind you, coming on for 12lb, I can’t hold her over my shoulder for long. I don’t know how women in their 50’s and 60’s who chose to have a baby, do it.

Having not slept well the first night, just 3 hours and too hot, we were all zonked out as we were out walking all afternoon. DGD was also worn out with all the stimulation.

  1. Grandchildren are such a joy. But exhausting to look after. Yes, I totally agree about women who have babies in their 50s&60s. I knew a bloke whose parents were farmers, and his Mum was 50 when he was born . She apparently gave birth in the morning and then got up and milked the cows! I gave birth in my 20s and would not have had the energy to do that!
We don't appear to have had rain in this bit of Norfolk (yet) Perhaps I should cut the grass now before the grey clouds deliver...

  2. Very wet here at the Van too, just got absolutely soaked right through walking the dogs, so we went and gently steamed over a cup of coffee and an early lunch in a small restaurant in Garstang ... I do hope we didn't leave too many puddles :-)

Nope, there's no way I would have had a baby in my 50s, let alone now. So much better to give them a cuddle, have a little play and then hand them back. I like my sleep too much now to be disturbed by a baby.

  3. Pouring down here as usual, but we've got the fence panels in - thank goodness my old allotment coat and hat were at home and not in the shed down there or I'd have looked like a drowned rat! I went to town this morning in boots and winter coat, and didn't overheat, even in shops, and am currently wrapped in a blanket on the sofa.
So glad you're enjoying your time with the family xx
