Drowning in brambles (blackberries)

This is about the 5th bowl harvested so far this year. Yet more to come but they are now reducing in size:

That is a chinese takeaway container in front so you can get an idea of the quantity. As they are now maturing at a smaller size (and usually less sweet), I shall start removing some of the almost finished branches. Odd berries are starting to go mouldy which will affect what's left if I don't do it.

I see due to the Banham Poultry Covid 19 outbreak, that the whole of Norfolk (seems a bit silly) has 'qualified' for the lowest level of extra government help (more testing). Up until this outbreak, the whole of Norfok was currently operating around 1 in 100,000 cases. With about 163 testing positive out of just under 1800, surely we are still around that figure? Go figure is all I can say!

  1. and no mention in the media of how many of those tested positive were actually ill with it or any in hospital? Talk about hyping it up.
Someone in Suffolk was initially sent to Blackburn for testing - they didn't go and I don't blame them. The world has gone mad - I'm pootling along ignoring it all - except for wearing a mask in shops.

    1. Certainly wearing mask and hand cleaning here as well. Hardly ever go to the shops though. Tend to save up until we need to get several items.

  2. Having spent the last 3 months in Norfolk, it did seem less affected by covid19 than other places - but also it felt as if many people had the attitude "it's not here so I needn't be too fussed about precautions"

    1. I think it’s probably the same everywhere. I was just about the only one wearing gloves and a mask in the early days. DS said the same up north.

  3. The way they are reporting covid at the moment is do deceiving. More people are tested then ever now so the figures are naturally skewed. It's a great year for blackberries.

    1. More cases are inevitable but we are still being careful.

  4. Sadly we haven't got any blackberries established here in the garden yet and they are so expensive to buy so no blackberry jam or pie filling for us this year. I think it depends on how much news there is and then they resort back to Covid.

    1. This one is a thornless one, Oregon I think. On average we get between 6lb and 8lb every year. We have to give them away.
