A bit red

I finally managed to obtain my flu jab yesterday, some 2 months after DB! Normally I don't feel much going in, this time a slight prickle. Then a few hours later, I normally feel a slight soreness which goes away after a few hours.

This time the sore feeling progressed all through the night. I couldn't lay on my arm comfortably so gave up. This morning, it is quite red, the kind of soreness and redness you get if you have a tetanus vaccination:

Other than that, I feel fine and it certainly wouldn't stop me having one in future even if as we age, these vaccinations are not quite so effective according to the news.

  1. I'm very lucky - I've been having the flu jab for about twenty years - I was a carer for an elderly person - and I've never had a reaction. Hope yours settles soon. Flu is not nice to have.

    1. I have had it once, never want it again! I normally am a bit tender with a tiny lump but am sure this will go.

  2. I had the Prevnar 13 pneumonia vaccine first and had a bit of tenderness and a slight fever the next day (I had been warned that this could happen) and then a week later had my high dose flu shot - no reaction at all. This was my first time getting one so wasn't sure what to expect - but no issues.

  3. Me and KL had ours on the same day. Absolutely no reaction for me, but her arm was bright red, hot and swollen for days. Hope yours settled soon, and Thankyou for the email. Xx

    1. Weird isn’t it. I now have a mild headache, it’s itching as well and just been for a sleep. Ah well.

  4. Hope it settles down soon. Both Gerard and I had ours the same day and thankfully no reaction.

  5. I didn't feel a thing but like you I had a hot red patch but it soon went. I have had worse symptoms. Hope you're feeling better soon.

    1. True. Some of the weirder vaccinations really hurt, even going in.

  7. My mum has had them for years and I think she has only had a reaction once, strange isn’t it.

    1. Perhaps it is what they mix them with. Maybe that changes each year?

  8. I've never had a reaction before, and a couple of times I didn't even feel the needle going in - nothing! This time, I actually flinched as the needle went in. it wasn't TOO bad but it came as a shock after my previous ones. I wonder if it depends on where the needle enters, maybe into a vein or touching a nerve or muscle? I hope your discomfort soon clears up - and that we all avoid the flu!

    1. One two years ago went in the wrong place and really affected arm movement for a few weeks. Doctor reckon it had missed the deltoid muscle which is where it’s supposed to go in. Arm just about good now, thanks.
