Getting sorted, slowly.

I generally love Christmas but I just can’t get into the mood this year. Depending on everyone’s health, whether dogs will be on heat or not (intact male in pack), will depend on whether we see family or not.

The thought of months more of this doesn’t depress me that much, it has become the norm, I just feel sad about it. Months more of not seeing DGD and her family. My nearest sister is in tier 3 rather than the tier 1 we were all previously in. Us, like a lot of the country are tier 2 so no meeting indoors:( That means not visiting her, indoors or outdoors.

Walking will resume next week but we have to travel separately, eat and drink separately, all outdoors. Summer was great, winter not so but we do get some nice winter days which may help.

We have filled our advent calendar this morning, with 3 lots different lots of sweets, 1 per day, alternative boxes each.

Most presents are ordered and in the process of being delivered. I have almost finished making Christmas cards. Still have one to do for DGD, DS and DDiL, and DB. I have finished a Birthday card for DGD but still have one to make for DS and a sister.

  1. It is sad but we are all doing what we feel is right for us and others, I do hope you can see your loved ones soon. We are in Cornwall tier 1 but we still won't be seeing my 86 year old mother, we haven't since March, this is her choice and we respect that as we have a very vulnerable son staying with us through all of this. We speak every day on the phone and have said when it is safe we will have a "Christmas" together ,even if its in April June or whenever, a small tree will go up and we will have all the Christmassy food and will watch a Christmas dvd. Enjoy your Christmas and let's hope the next one will be better, best wishes 'Chrissie.

    1. Thanks Christie. Your mother is being very stoic, bless her. It will be nice when you can all safely meet again.

  2. I am putting my tree up with my grandson in a couple of days. He and his mother and her SO are in our bubble. It would be awful if they were not. My heart goes out to you. I have a two year old grand daughter I long to see, but cannot.

I go about the business of this Christmas trying my part to make sure that next Christmas is different.

    1. Let us all hope so. Wonder what Mother Nature has planned next?

  3. We're out of lockdown next week but straight back into Tier 3. I had planned a small baby shower for my daughter, 7 months pregnant with her first baby - but I've had to cancel it. Instead over the few days freedom at Xmas, were having a family one instead ( think it's called a baby sprinkle) which is something at least. Bring on the vaccine! I'll be glad to see the end of 2020.

    1. Certainly seems to be dragging on. Even with the vaccine it will still need managing I suspect. Family baby shower over Christmas sounds great.

  4. We are all just doing our best. We will be able to visit my Mum for a brief visit and even see my brother as he is already her 'support bubble' and that unfortunately will be the extent of our three household mixing as me and Alan living in different places are two households, although officially one bubble as we are two single person households even though across country borders ... it's all very confusing.

To be honest a calm quiet Christmas will be lovely. I have sent out some advance Advent Calendar cards, have one more pack of cards to write and send and then money to be transferred to my sons bank account for him to buy his children something, and the same for my grandson and great grandson. I have no idea what any of them are 'in to' so it's easier that way. My 15 year old and 11 years old grandsons have gotten savvy and prefer to save most of their money for the Boxing Day sales and usually ask their Dad just to get them a little surprise for the day itself. Chips off the old block ;-)

    1. Nice to hear. We rely on their wish lists and chose from them.

  5. I've finished some more wheat bags and the wax wraps. I'm just keeping myself busy. Who knows whether a tree will go up in my house:0( All the presents I've ordered have arrived. I will do a little bit of shopping for my granddaughter and grandsons if the sports shop opens next week!

    1. We ordered a ham from M & S which can’t be picked up until Christmas Eve morning. That will probably be our Christmas Day evening dinner, assuming they can come.

  6. I find it sad as well rather than be angry over the whole thing, we will do what we can to make Christmas enjoyable for all of us... Mind you I am still on tender hooks as to weather Kurt will be able to come home for the holiday.

    God bless.

  7. We will, unexpectedly, be seeing family on Boxing Day, providing we all stay well. It will be strange to see them, particularly indoors.
I went into town to the butcher's yesterday, and felt sad at the state of our town centre. It was already dying before this. I'm doing my best to support small businesses, and hope that the cafe survives.
