You see Margo

Christmas came in a box! - (The Good Life - Christmas Day Special).

Using a courier service DS and family received our presents yesterday and we, from them, today:

I thanked the driver for safe delivery and wished him a Merry Christmas. DB went to M & S this morning first thing, to collect our box of food:

It was pre-ordered ages ago, and paid for, so we didn't want to cancel it. Whilst in there, he took the opportunity to buy more underwear. Last time they shut under Covid restrictions, they wouldn't let you into the clothing area and we started to run low as things 'wasted away'. We are both okay for the foreseeable future now.

I have bought some dry cough syrup as I have a mild one. Pretty sure it isn't Covid, just an occasional dry cough, which is irritating. The sort of thing you get at the start of a cold, I also hope it isn't one of those starting.

Mind you, since early March, every three weeks without fail, I have had a sore throat return for two days, then it disappears. The cough is new but part of, I think, the same thing.

Anyhow, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and healthy Merry Christmas and New Year. No matter what this virus throws at us, we will prevail eventually, most of us anyway.

I want to thank you all for reading and for the fraction of you that comment, a special thank you. You make my day and hopefully, more will be brave enough to comment next year.

  1. Have you tried taking a vitamin D supplement? I used to have constant sore throats every winter until I found out I was vitamin D deficient. Since taking a high dose daily supplement (2 years) I haven't had a single cold.

    1. I have been on them for a few months now. As we generally keep ourselves to ourselves, we rarely get a cold. Thanks for the advice.

  2. Now thats odd because I've been getting a bit of a sore throat every few weeks, just for a day. Have to tell myself - it's OK not a symptom of Covid.
Glad your Christmas arrived in a box in time. Hope your Christmas tree isn't 6 inches short!!

    1. Weird isn’t it, must be something not clearing up. Tree is short but only because we have just 2/3rds of it - ha!

  5. Up until now I haven't been able to comment. I'm not sure why, but I think it was because I wasn't "Following" you. I clicked the bar and then the comment box came up. :)
I have an odd question. I live in the middle of the U.S. and I love to read about England and British ways. I've always wondered about your love of Brussels sprout and cauliflower cheese (with cheese sauce?). And marrows? What are they? And why do we not read as much about broccoli there? Or tomatoes? I tried to zoom on your Christmas dinner. 2 cauliflower cheeses?? I like cauliflower and all but I can't say I like it enough to have 2 for a meal. :)
Our meal tomorrow afternoon will be with our local son and family. We are having ham, cheesy potato casserole (I may have to explain that one to you.), dinner rolls and a fruit salad. They are providing the other veg and the dessert. Oh and since ddil is pregnant and still at the sick stage, I'm making her turkey meatball and vegetable sheet pan meal. Meatballs and an assortment of veg: sweet potatoes, white potatoes, carrots, onions, broccoli and cauliflower, all tossed in olive oil and garlic, s&p. No Christmas cake but cookies(biscuits) and the little ones wanted ice cream.
    Merry (Happy) Christmas!

    1. How odd you couldn’t comment. Cauliflower cheese is like cheese and mac but cauliflower instead of mac! Marrows are overgrown courgettes (zucchini’s). Brussels sprouts are predominantly a Christmas tradition in a lot of households but a lot of us eat them through winter. I love them DB can’t abide them same with cabbage and broccoli. We usually eat loads of tomatoes, us Brits love them but not mentioned much by us as shop ones are pretty tasteless. We grow our own in summer and enjoy them then. Phew!

    2. We were originally having visitors for the holidays but they have been cancelled due to covid. Too far for them to drive in one day and back home again, hence the amount of cauliflower cheese. I shall freeze one and eat the other myself over a couple of meals. We love sheet pan veg here as well.

  8. I love that particular episode of The Good Life.

Sending hopes that the cold comes to nothing and you feel 100% again very quickly. Your Christmas may have come in a box but it sounds great, all the same.
    xx
