We tend not to take a great deal of notice of our local weather forecast as it always seems slightly out. The main weather forecast always seems different for whatever reason.
However, both seem to be talking about snow. Now we live in quite a dip in so called flat Norfolk, but anyone who cycles will know, Norfolk isn't flat. It tends to get confused in places with Cambridgeshire which is flatter, in particular, the Fens.
This snow, if it arrives, will coincide with our main shopping day. To be safe, we are popping out to get just a few items that we are quite low on. We went out the other day to top up our meat which was almost non-existent and I could kick myself for not thinking about these items then.
Time will tell if they have the forecast right. It could be a little or quite a lot (for us that is). The last good and deep amount of snow, about 9" was in 1994, before that, 1987 when we had between 2' and 3'.
1987 was also the year when we had huge 'swords' of ice hanging from the gutters as the snow slowly melted and refroze every night for weeks. Our village was also cut off for a couple of weeks and the village store was emptied as people panic bought. It was also the year of the hurricane!
Hopefully you get out, back and your village is not cut off this time around. It sounds like 1987 was not a good year for you.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Weather wise certainly but also the year I became a mum!
DeleteSnow is predicted here too in Mid Essex. Whether it will or maybe it will rain, goodness knows, but I hope I will get my early morning shop before anything too bad comes along.
ReplyDeleteStay warm and safe. xx
We hope to but as per usual, the weather has changed.
DeleteI think it was 1975 when Norfolk had snow on Easter Sunday, I remember going with my Dad to clear the church drive before the congregation arrived. Here in SE Dorset we don't seem to get proper snow.
ReplyDeleteI think snow is certainly getting rarer nowadays.
DeleteYes, 1987 was the year my younger son was born and I remember the 'swords of ice' on the flats opposite ours, they lasted for well over a week. Luckily we were firmly ensconced in our flat with a new gas fire to keep us warm and a new-born baby supply of disposable nappies to last us for a couple of weeks before we had to break out the terry towelling ones. It was snug and cosy, and with a Co-op at the end of the road we were okay for supplies.
ReplyDeleteWe've had every sort of weather possible over the course of the last week or so ... snow, ice, sleet, more snow, rain and then today sunshine. But we too have snow forecast for Sunday, so we'll see if it happens.
I find it amazing that weather computers cost so much money but they still can’t say for sure what will happen where.
DeleteHope you manage to get all the shopping that you need, not a lot in our local supermarket.
ReplyDeleteYes we did thanks. Bet we won’t get any now.
DeleteI remember 1987 too ( and 1963!) 1994 we were at the smallholding so nearer the coast and never got as much snow as inland Mid-Suffolk. Did Norfolk miss the Beast from the East snow in 2018? We couldn't get out to go to Addenbrooks hospital for Cols appointment and next door neighbours removal lorry couldn't get here with their furniture.
ReplyDeleteI think we missed most of it. I do remember 1963, great fun as a child but I lived in Lincolnshire then.
DeleteWe had deep snow in March 1996. It was very tough to push the pram through it taking K to school. Last deep snow was December 2010 when we'd put the house up for sale and a couple kept messing us about with whether they were coming to view or not. In the end they did, spent 40 minutes viewing a 2 bed semi and then put in a very cheeky offer. None as bad as 1981 though, when it lasted for weeks.
ReplyDeleteI would always imagine you would get more snow yet your garden is always ahead of us.
DeleteDecember 2010 was very snowy, I remember living in a flat having left my husband and I couldn't get my uniform dry etc February/March 2013 was also thick snow.
ReplyDeleteSeems to vary so much everywhere. The problem being we are never fully prepared as it doesn’t often come.
DeleteLiving on the prairie in central USA, we get snow every winter but this year we've gotten quite a bit! Matter of fact it's snowing now, Sunday morning. We did a big shop at the big box store (do you have Sam's Club in Britian?) on Thursday evening mostly to get what DS2's family needed (diapers & Littles' snacks). But there were items I needed I couldn't get there and needed to pick up a Rx; so off to the local Walmart Friday after work. Oh my! It was so busy!! So many people with filled-to-overflowing carts! It was first of the month (foodstamps) combined with a storm coming in and frigid temperatures forecast for the next 2 weeks; combined with big American Football game on tv Sunday (today). Everyone decided to do their weekly shopping and tv-watching food all at the same time.
ReplyDeleteShopping nowadays seems to be all about timing doesn’t it. We used to watch American football but it is often late at night and I can no longer stay up. Occasionally watch highlights. Not seen any Sam’s clubs here I think something similar is here but often, only for business.
