Neighbours, friends and family, gathered on the streets to say farewell to our neighbour, it was lovely to see. All would have liked to go to the service but due to Coronavirus restrictions, that is no longer possible. Not even all his family could attend in person, so sad.
We, like many, watched the service online. A quiet, reflective, non religious service, with a celebrant rather than a minister. I found out so much about him and his wife that we didn't know, as most of it happened before we moved in.
A truly wonderful man, kind, simple living, always with a smile on his face. Taken way too soon.
It's nice to line the streets to pay your respects isn't it and to be able to watch online if that is what you want to do.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm starting to think I must be very strange because this not being able to go to things really suits me. If I wasn't already married this past year would have been the year I would have done it. Not having the pressure to have people invited (just as we actually did in fact) is so refreshing, no family feuds either ... at weddings or funerals ... or having to invite someone just because you feel you should. It just really suits me.
Same here. I hate funerals but would have gone to his. Our wedding was just us, DB’s mum and dad, his close cousin and family. On the day an aunt and uncle turned up out of the blue.
DeleteI'm another one who dislikes fuss! 12 invited guests to our wedding in 1989.
ReplyDeleteWe did our entire thing, plus a new bed, for £500. MinL and myself did the catering and we had our reception in their small back garden. Just lovely.
DeleteI have watched a few funerals online over the past year. Quiet, and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They are very different but peaceful.
DeleteI like the online visits and can appreciate the opportunity to see and hear funerals and weddings without the fuss of new clothes, transport or mingling. I am sorry you lost a neighbor and friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, same here.
DeleteIt will be interesting to see what happens re Prince Philip. He did say he didn't want a lot of fuss, after all... But I am sad when bereaved widows stand alone at the service as nobody is allowed to hug them.
ReplyDeleteMust be difficult but our neighbours wife was certainly held by her daughters.
DeleteA sad loss to lose a good neighbour, such a shame about the funeral restrictions.
ReplyDeleteWe knew him for 34 years although the last year, his thoughts were a bit random. Still had a lovely smile though.
